Greetings everyone, I am Jeremiah Arkham, head of Arkham Asylum. I use he/him pronouns and am 49 years old. Jonathan Crane, aka The Scarecrow, had threatened convinced me to make this blog.

I'm not going to pretend that the mental health system hasn't been historically oppressive towards women, homosexuals, transgender people, and people of color. While I cannot speak for other former heads of Arkham Asylum, I have a zero tolerance policy for any homophobia, sexism, transphobia, or racism.
In a perfect world, I could fire these people and bar them from ever working in the mental health field...but we do not live in a perfect world. usually they just end up getting transferred to a different facility. while I am the owner of this specific asylum, I would like everyone to remember that I also have a board of directors looking over my every decision before it can be approved.
if any former or present patients have reports of any employee (doctors, nurses, security, ect) they are more than welcome to fill out a formal complaint on our website. all of these complaints are looked over by myself and Doctor Joan Leland. we treat these very seriously and all of them result in intensive internal investigations. if you have a serious report of a crime committed by any of our employees, you are more than welcome to bring those to the gcpd and our attention.
I can guarantee no accusations will be swept under the rug. We here at Arkham Asylum are trying our very best to restore the public's trust in us.

This reads like the PR stuff Waller used to write out whenever the public got wind of bombs being in the heads of criminals, and how that's being nothing more than an anti-government conspiracy theory. Nothing more than slander or libel depending on who was talking.
Any actual complaints that were received, like from a Wallace West who's father, Daniel West, was sent on one of her little suicide missions, were to be disposed of as well as all records of Daniel West ever being at Belle Reve in the first place.

Amanda Waller is. a professional colleague who I am not legally allowed to speak bad of, so I hope you understand me ignoring the parts about her-
however I will not deny that we haven't had cases of bigoted members of our staff. both hired under my term, under Doctor Amadeus Arkham, and under Doctor Hugo Strange during his short time as the head of Arkham.
ignoring these mistakes is not the correct way to deal or grow from them. my intent has never been to specifically hire people that attempt to spread their hate in my institution. but I know when to admit that I have made mistakes.
like I stated above, we currently have a zero tolerance policy. that has not always been the case, but I want to work on Arkham becoming an accepting place for everyone.

Almost as though you were trying to sweep the incident under the rug by sending both parties somewhere else. I've heard from your former patients that electro shock therapy was even common place at your facility.
Electric shock therapy has been removed. it hasn't been in place since Doctor Hugo Strange was in charge, and I am certainly not planning on ever bringing it back.
I do not control where my staff is transferred to, I am only in charge of submitting a request for a transfer. as for the patients..that is a difficult thing to understand and many parts of how the transferring process works is confidential.
I heard it actually took a while for you to remove electro shock therapy actually. It took a few rioting patients. Heard a guard nearly got his arm bitten off when a particular patient, that somehow wound up at Belle Reve just after this incident, was about to undergo electro shock. Had to be pinned down by six guards, maybe seven before this patient had to be sedated. This patient has even told me that it most likely wasn't the last time these methods were used to even "calm down" a patient. And I'm sure you're aware how harmful these practices are.
removing something almost every patient had undergone was a process. a long process of paperwork and board meetings with doctors who somehow still think shock therapy is fine-
that specific patient was transferred because every nurse had been bitten by him at some point and multiple had panic attacks just being around him. it was not an attempt to "get rid" of him, but rather our employees could not give him the needed treatments.
I will not excuse guards subduing a patient when they are acting out violently, because that is what they are there for. to ensure patients do not harm themselves or others.
So you do not deny the allegations that this patient was about to undergo electro shock therapy at the time, which lead to him lashing out in the first place, correct? I'm asking because this patient as told me that the biting was, more often than not, an act of self defense. I'm sorry that the nurses had panic attacks around him, that is an issue for certain, however, have you never looked into the treatment of this particular patient? From the sounds of it, this matter was not investigated through properly, you just send him away to appease the nurses, rather than looking into the way these nurses treated him, and evaluating what the proper way to handle this would be.
I cannot make everyone happy. it is unfortunate that patient has to go through that, and I understand he is most likely traumatized.
This is absolutely not an excuse, but I had been thrown back into the position of Head psychiatrist against my will with very short notice. at the time I was swamped with work and it is entirely possible I did not properly investigate the situation.
admitting that is the best I can do, since a majority of the nurses who requested his transfer are either dead or have transferred somewhere else. too little too late, I suppose. and I apologize.
You admit that some of the nurses that mistreated this patient were later transferred out, something that, by your own admission, can happen when they use methods that are considered abusive. And only now you have come to the conclusion that you might not have actually handled the situation with the most consideration?
You also admit that you could have been "swamped with work". What happens when you are "swamped with work" once more? Will you continue to look over other cases with other patients? How do we know that this won't happen again?
I have gotten better at handling these types of situations, and I also have Doctor Joan Leland assisting me with internal investigations now. she is extremely helpful.
