ok i am so tired of hearing that even is being â"shadyââ
at this point, thereâs no denying that even is mentally ill. i could list quite a few moments that point to this, but iâll stick with the most obvious- skam is not the type of show to give us things that donât add to the plot. they have so few episodes to begin with that every moment is important. the âi donât want mentally ill people in my lifeâ line and evenâs reaction wouldnât be included (and emphasized) if they didnât move the story forward. this show and its creators are very, very conscious of all of the decisions they make.
with this established, please consider the current position even is in before passing any judgement on his actions.
he started at a new school without many friends and ended a relationship with someone who has been a big part of his life for four years. these are both huge changes that can leave someone desperate to maintain the relationships they do have, no matter what. if even suspected that the truth about his mental illness would affect his relationship with isak, he would not bring it up. isak then explicitly said that he prefers his life without mentally ill people. this is every reason even needs to keep his mental illness hidden. he then tries to pull away, most likely to protect himself because he thinks that isak wonât want to be with him if isak knows that heâs mentally ill. but they fall in love anyways. heâs literally never felt like this before. romantic feelings that intense paired with the fear that everything will fall apart because of something âwrongâ with him is probably debilitatingly scary. he thinks heâs going to lose isak if isak ever finds out. lying is his way of trying to protect himself and his relationship, this relationship with a boy that obviously means so much to him. yes, heâs hiding something. yes, heâs lying because he thinks itâs the only thing thatâs going to keep him safe.
heâs not being shady, heâs fucking terrified.
