RISE Self Evaluation
This assignment is developed in order to allow us to review our own work and evaluate our progress throughout the month. Also, the self evaluation creates and promotes a better understanding of ourselves and our journey in the media industry.
This week we had to take on the role of interviewer and position candidate for a mock interview. The assignment was meant to teach us what a real interview for our desired position this month might…
RISE Peer Review: Hope Anderson This assignment is designed to encourage our fellow classmates and connect with them through our work. Giving feedback and positive criticism to your peers, as well as accepting it is something that will always benefit you in the workplace.
Hope,
I can’t believe how informed and knowledgeable you are about this position! It’s very obvious that you did your research and were very well prepared for both roles in your mock interview. Like you said in your strengths section, you didn’t hesitate or stumble on your words once. The entire video was clear and very easy to comprehend. I love that you touched on the fact that because you’re such a recent graduate, you’re more up to date with the trends. I think it’s very important, especially in our industry, to be caught up with the times and constantly educated on new tools and ideas stemming from media advancement. I am in such a rush to graduate sometimes that I forget how lucky we are to have access to so many resources through Full Sail. I definitely think that’s something I’ll mention in future interviews!
I do want to touch on the strengths and weaknesses section of your interview. You did an awesome job of highlighting some of your strengths. Working well with a team and being observant and aware of your customers needs is something that is great to mention. However, with the weaknesses, my advice is to be a little less direct about them and try and find a way to spin it into something positive. When I heard the words ‘inability’ and ‘lackluster’ it almost immediately put a negative picture into my head. For example, my weakness is that I am not a morning person and I struggle getting out of my groggy state in the first couple of hours. This is definitely something that could turn an employer off, but I followed that statement up by saying “however, I am willing to stay into the night and work as long as necessary to make up for time lost.” I know that you will be a great employee one day, so always try and shine a light on your talents and work ethic even when they try and get you with a trick question like this :)
Once again, this was really awesome and I think Push10 would be lucky to have you on the team. It’s so exciting to finally be at the end of our school journey and looking to dive into the real world. Best of luck in all of your future endeavors and I hope we cross paths again soon. If you’re ever in Nashville, feel free to reach out!
Analysis: Company Questions
With graduation closing in on us, this assignment is great preparation for future job interviews. Having questions prepared is so important if you want to impress the interviewer with your eagerness to work and learn more about the position.
Can you talk a little bit more about the day-to-day responsibilities that come along with this position?
- This is important to my interview process because I want to know exactly what I am interviewing for and how my days might possibly look if I was given the position. I want to fully understand the roles and responsibilities that come along with the position because having this knowledge will help me make a decision about the opportunity.
What is the work atmosphere like here?
- I think this is one of, if not the most important question for me. I work really great in an open and energetic environment and I want to know whether or not that’s what I would be getting into. This isn’t to say I wouldn’t consider the opportunity if not, but knowing more about your future co-workers and the way they work will definitely sway your final decision.
How do you evaluate performance here?
- I think this is crucial information for me because I want to know what is needed to be done in order to succeed in this company. I want to know what they expect out of their employees and how they determine whether or not they are an asset to the company. Being aware of this will help me decide if it’s a position that I am confident that I can handle.
Do you see advancement in the future?
- I actually had an old boss who, during my interview, stopped me as I was walking out the door and said “aren’t you going to ask me if there’s room for growth here?” Ever since then I ask it in every interview. It shows the interviewer that you see a future with their company and want to work hard. It also will help you make a decision on whether or not this is an opportunity with longevity.
What have you enjoyed most about working for this company?
- I love this question because it throws the interviewer off a bit and puts the spotlight on them. It gives you a chance to relax and listen to them talk about what they love about the company. Most of the time it will be very easy to tell if they’re being genuine or not.

Project: Reaching Out To Target Employers
Below you will find a sample email draft and audio voicemail file that I created to send to one of my target employers. The contact I am reaching out to was actually shared with me by a family friend back home. This activity did a great job of informing me on how to reach out to my connections in a welcoming and engaging way.
Subject: New contact from Orange Park!
Body:
Hi Maya!
My name is Jenna Williams. My grandma actually passed along your information to me and was so excited for me to reach out. Richard and Janis are good family friends of ours and told me to get in contact with you! I actually just moved to Nashville from Orange Park yesterday and would love to meet up and chat sometime soon if you'd be interested. My grandma kept saying you worked for a big company in Nashville, but I had no idea it was as prestigious as William Morris Endeavor. I've heard such great things about the company and I'd really enjoy the chance to pick your brains.
If WME or anyone else you may know in the agency industry is looking to hire someone, please feel free to pass along my information. I will be graduating on February 3rd and will be ready to work immediately after. I've attached my resume and a few samples of my work for you to look over. You can contact me through my email, [email protected] or at (904) 874-7193. Thanks so much for encouraging me to reach out and taking the time to talk with me. I'm looking forward to hearing from you soon!
Best,

Resume Analysis:
This assignment is the first time I’ve ever used or even heard of the Jobscan website, but I actually found it to be very resourceful when it came to updating my resume. I try and update my resume every 3-6 months, so this was awesome to find a really easy and helpful way to do so. I chose the formatting in my resume because I thought it was very easy to navigate and comprehend, while still grabbing the readers attention with it’s color and clean fonts. I believe that my resume is classic and professional with a modern twist that will help me to stand out to potential employers.
When I initially uploaded my resume onto Jobscan my “Match Rate” was only at 32%. There were quite a few things that needed to be added and tailored in order to reflect more upon the Executive Assistant job posting I found. The most important thing that Jobscan found was the missing job title in my resume. I decided to update the “agent assistant” role to “executive assistant” in order to fulfill that need for an exact match. Another thing that Jobscan recommended was to update my skills sections. I noticed that I did have almost all of the skills needed, however they were worded differently so they weren’t considered exact matches so it deducted points from my match score. After the updates, I managed to raise my score 22 points to a 54%. Although it’s still not perfect, I’m happy with the results and look forward to continuing the growth of my resume.
Executive Agent Assistant
This activity is aimed to help me find and discover jobs within the entertainment industry. Identifying and researching these keywords will guide me to determine what future employers are looking for in their talent.
Understanding and identifying these keywords is very important while building a resume and professional profile. Companies can actually use filters while searching for candidates which specifically relate to some of the skills and qualifications I highlighted above. With this knowledge, I know not only what skills I need to work on, but also which talents of mine to capitalize on. Keywords are crucial when it comes to finding a job and being able to back up what you are listing as qualifications can almost guarantee you a job in the future.
Project 2: Secret State of North Korea
The inspiration behind my poster came mostly from the sympathy I had for the youth of North Korea while reading and studying about the impact the DPRK has on it's people. They are completely stripped from creativity and any chance of exploring ideas outside of what is presented to them as "appropriate." The only acceptable way of thinking is the way that the government wants them to think. The media and internet is so heavily monitored that the people of North Korea are completely oblivious to what is going on outside of the countries borders. Out of a state of paranoia, Kim Jong Un and the rest of the DPRK government has manipulated their citizens into believing that nothing exists but the society they are living in.
I wanted my poster to represent creativity and peace, and the fact that the two have the potential to go hand in hand. I chose purple as the main color because it does just this. Purple encourages creativity and offers a sense of spirituality, something that the people of North Korea would be punished for if caught by the government. When I look at the color scheme along with the scenic background image of the water, a calm immediately comes over my body and that's the first thing I want my audience to take from this poster.
The quote that I chose for the front of my poster really compliments the theme of forward thinking and individuality. The word "you" is used so frequently within the quote and I think that is very important because in North Korea you are not capable of thinking for yourself. I continued that theme with the message on the backside of my poster. I focused heavily on the use of the word "you" so the person who is reading the poster feels like they're being called out directly. Growing up in America, we are encouraged to explore ideas outside of the box and find ourselves through creativity and imagination. I believe that my poster represents this artistic and creative freedom that The United States government grants the American people. Although this poster may not help break the chains that Kim Jong Un has on his people, I hope that it will lead a young person to begin questioning the morality of the DPRK and inspire them to use their mind to create and not adapt to what is being forced upon them.
