Magazine Project
I decided to do a magazine about hockey, which really isnāt a surprise. I called itĀ āJās Hockey Junkā and made this aĀ āspecial issueā all about the Capitals, my favorite team. If I had to make a series of them, Iād also make a Hershey Bears version, a San Jose Sharks Version, and maybe a Philadelphia Flyers version. (The Bears version would cover how Iāve met almost every Bear to play in Hershey since 2014; the Sharks version would talk about how my first hockey memory is with the Sharks; and the Flyers version would likely focus on Claude Giroux.)
I used my own photos for both the cover and the inside picture. I considered doing a full-page dominant photo of Ovechkin on the right-hand side, but I didnāt have a photo with sharp enough resolution. Both articles on the inside are pieces I wrote a couple years ago and thought really fit the theme of my magazine. I used the extra space at the bottom of the Ovechkin article to add a note about why Iām so invested in his career, and decided to set off this bit by lowering the font size, keeping it without columns, and adding a colored box behind the text.
I really enjoyed working on this, it reminded me of my work on my high school yearbook, but with a bit more flexibility since I didnāt have to make 192 pages with the same layout.

The cover for my magazineĀ
Snackable Graphic-Evgeny Kuznetsov
A couple days before the snackable assignment started, Capitals player Evgeny Kuznetsov scored his 250th career NHL point. I figured it would be easy enough to make a quick, simple graphic relating to this milestone. I put the date, the opponent, and how he achieved it. I also put in his to-date totals in seasons, games played, goals, and points.
I had trouble keeping it simple--I wanted to break down his points by primary and secondary assists, power play points, game-winning goals, shootout goals, and more...but I couldnāt find all the information.
I chose a font from theĀ āRussianā look tag on dafont. Most of the Russian-type fonts were somewhat hard to read, with very stylized letters. The one I went with was much more simple while still giving an impression of cyrillic shapes.
In the bottom-right corner, I added the triangle because the photo I used required me to cut off his legs at an odd angle, and I didnāt want him to beĀ āfloating.ā
Infographic on Braden Holtby of the Washington Capitals
After I started this infographic he started having a stretch of bad games. I think I cursed him.
Color Palette for my infographic...the red and blue are the official values of the Washington Capitals. (Found here)

Infographic prep 1
Iām doing my infographic on Washington Capitals starting goalkeeper Braden Holtby. (I would have done it on Alex Ovechkin but his stats are too much to put in one graphic.)
I plan to include his career save % and goals against average; his first career appearance, start, and shutout dates; his win-loss-overtime loss record; and the number of shutouts in his career. Maybe some other information like draft year and junior team/s as well.
Iām looking at The Light Font, Quicksand, and Steelfish (all sans-serif from dafont) as font options.
.gif project
My .gif shows a light blue die being rolled for an attack in the game Dungeons & Dragons. It lands on 20, which is an automatic hit with increased damage. Because getting aĀ ānaturalā 20 is very special, I made the number appear to glow.
I chose a dark green background because it seemed calm to me, and the white and blue will pop on the dark shade. I moved and rotated the die for each of the first 8 frames to make it appear it was being tossed and rolled on the green background. For frames 9, 10, and 11, I made the die bigger, as if a person were leaning closer to see the die. The numerals are a bronze-ish color because my real-life dice have golden numbers, but a stronger yellow would have been impossible to see.
The D20 Iām going to makeĀ āroll.ā Iāll color it in, and Iāll also have to add the numbers.
.gif assignment
I play Dungeons and Dragons, so I want my .gif to relate to that. I went with something simple, just a 20-sided die being rolled for a Natural 20/Critical Hit. I want to zoom in on the 20 and have it appear to glow.

Post 2
**Mood board is incomplete at time of posting; Iām having trouble with the layout because I made it too complex for my own good. I intend to work on it with Tara during lab tomorrow.**
I am incredibly introverted, anxious, and uncomfortable in groups. I take a long time to open up to people, even though Iām often lonely. Though I wish I didnāt have anxiety, I donāt think itās all bad that Iām super-shy. It allows my bonds with people, when I form them, to be deeper and more genuine. It also means Iām more observant, and have more time to think about the things I observe. When Iām interested in something, Iām passionate about it and can carry a conversation about the topic completely on my own. In the past few years Iāve come to the realization that Iām FtM transgender, and Iām still working to assert my identity in my life. Aside from my sister, none of my immediate family are accepting, so I have to put my transition on hold--but I know that when I think of myself in the future, I see a man.
For my mood board, I want to incorporate the mars symbol/male gender marker in the layout by having a circle in the center, with a diagonal line to the upper-right corner. It will be subtle, but Iāll know itās there. In the photos, I want to focus on the color red--because of my hair, because itās my favorite color, and because it represents my deep & intense passion.
EDIT 2.2 11:25 AM
I decided to use all my own photos for my mood board. A few of them required color-correction to make them more red.
