(Author note: I am new to One Piece, started it recently, and so my knowledge of the crew is limited. Please tell me if the characters are not acting like themselves.)
Overview: The crew worries their foodie captain will ruin your progress, and so a plan is hatched.
The minute Sanji leaves the kitchen for the midnight air, he isn't at all surprised at the gathered crewmates littering the deck. Minus Luffy.
Their concerned faces fall even further as Sanji pulls out a cigarette, taking some signal that it's bad news. But as the cook breathes in and exhales smoke, he smiles.
"They're eating right now."
Relief is a tidal wave among the small crew. Everyone exchanging glances and quiet joyful words. They all turn back to Sanji though as Usopp raises a concerning question.
"Then why are you out here?"
Sanji puffs out another round of smoke, though his grin is still strong. "They have a sensitivity to smells when eating."
Chopper perks up at that, while the other crewmates nod their understanding, he steps up with a notebook already flipped open. "That's great news! I mean…not in the eating way but the doctor way. I've been keeping track of all their mealtimes to see if I could make a medicine to help after all!" The reindeer puffs up proudly.
Sanji crouches down, patting his head. "You'll have to give me those notes in exchange for mine then. That way I can get them on a meal plan sooner."
"Of course! Right here I noted the colors they don't even glance at, and-" Chopper is cut off as Robin steps up, "At the next Island I'll look for any research on food aversions." The cook and doctor nod.
"Robin! You cut me off! That's not nice!" Chopper drops his notebook to beat his hooves against Robin's legs.
She smiles, all patience as she crouches to his level. "We all love your brilliant mind, but right now we wouldn't want to make our dear crewmate aware of our stalking now would we?"
Chopper backs off, arms waving as he dances in his spot. "That doesn't make me happy at all. I guess we wouldn't want to interrupt their mealtime."
Franky also steps in, his smile like a sun as he puts out, "I'm happy our little dude is eating, I've also come up with a divider so they don't have to look at the other foods while eating with us."
Robin smiles warmly, "So, you've also noticed they hate looking at other foods when eating."
Brook sighs, fingers pricking at the strings of his violin. "I'm delighted their eating. After all they were all skin and bones, and not in the beautiful way I present to the world."
The crew shares delighted grins, no words now needed as they set the next plan into motion. You're their crewmate, and they want you to feels apart of them as much as you mean to them.
Usopp yet again brings the mood down by pointing out another issue. "What about Luffy?"
The silent pause is filled with tension.
Sanji grits his teeth, his battle face greeting the crew. "I've already thought of it. At dinner tomorrow I've rearranged the seating if you all don't mind."
The crew leans in with interest.
"I'll have Mosshead and Nami sit on either side of them, with yours truly standing close enough to intervene if needed. Robin, my dear, I hope you could act as a last resort to stop our captain if he goes for their meal."
"Right! Let's have a dinner with our entire crew!" Nami cheers, raising up a fist. The others join in.
With the plan laid out, everyone is excited to finally have you getting back on your feet.
Sanji stands up, finishing his cigarette and heading back inside the kitchen where you have just finished the first big meal you've had in a while. Crust and picked off pieces litter the plate, and a frown is tugging at your features already.
Sanji is swift to move in, before you can let the guilt consume you. He snatches up the plate and eats the scraps, grinning at you through each bite.
"Thank you, Sanji." You whisper, waving him off and heading for the door.
His voice makes you pause in the door. "Want to try having dinner with the crew?"
Meeting his steel eyes, full of determination, you collapse into yourself. More tears that no amount of wiping will erase. "Yeah, we can try."
Sanji nods, waving you off with a blown kiss.
That's how the night ends, a stomach finally full and hope for the next day. And it goes just as normal as you image it would be, with only slight changes. Franky asking about the divider he made, Chopper showing his notes about your condition and asking for more personal details.
Sanji continues to warm you up to the idea of eating with others around, letting Nami join for breakfast and Robin for lunch. Though both times you leave before even finishing the meal, nausea rolling in your gut.
Now comes dinner, loud a boisterous as always. The only change is the seating arrangement as you walk in.
Your seat is surrounded by Nami and Zoro, with Sanji making rounds of the table and missing a cigarette like he usually would have at this hour.
The divider is also set up, high enough to block the view of the other's meals but not their faces if you wanted to chat.
A twirl and deep bow, Sanji presents your dinner. Plain white rice.
You hesitate for a minute, eyeing down the food for any inconsistencies, but Sanji is a quick study and perfected the meal. The bites are slow but filling.
It's when Luffy pauses, eyeing you down that the room fills with tension. Nami has a fist raised, ready to strike, and Zoro is gripping his knife with too much pressure. Even Sanji has a leg raised, ready to strike.
Returning Luffy's gaze you smile and take a bite.
His arm stretches forward, a loud fhwip filling the air. Everyone is jumping ready to defend you without you knowing, but your food stays untouched. Instead…
"Hey! That was my dinner!" Zoro shouts in outrage.
Luffy is still stuffing his face as he answers, "It was left unguarded."
"That wasn't an invitation!"
You stand up, the room silences expect for Luffy. Everyone notices the drawn face you sport, how the food is half finished. "I," a gulp, "think this is enough for now." Nausea rolling in your stomach you take your leave.
It's also when everyone pounces on the captain. He's pinned to the wall as everyone glares him down.
Stilling chowing, he grins nervously. "Did I do something? I'm sorry!"
Nami is the first to spit her anger, as general as it is. "Why didn't you take their food?"
"Yeah! Why mine?" Zoro spits, still angry over his own lost meal.
Now Luffy is confused, one brow raised dramatically. "Why?"
Usopp jumps up, his own confused anger reflected from the rest of the crew in his shaking fist. "You steal everyone's food! Why didn't you take theirs?"
"Huh?" the crew is confused, and they drop their captain in the haze of the lamplight.
Sanji is the first to break out of it, stepping up to get the answer. "What do you mean, they ate it?"
"They haven't been eating any other meal, I have. This is the first time I've seen them eat, so why would I take it?"
"You knew about their eating problem and didn't say anything?" Sanji is angry at his captain's silence.
"I thought everyone knew. We're a crew and we take care of each other, I knew Sanji would figure it out." Luffy scratches at his cheek, peaking around to eye the table still littered with food. "Can we eat now?"
The entire crew deflates under the surprise, hollowly nodding as he leaps to eat.
"So, we didn't even need to worry about this in the first place?" Zoro says.
The crew groans in defeat.
