Harriet made this closing plea during a suffrage meeting; in the late 19th century she recognized that freedom isn’t freedom until everyone can celebrate that freedom with equal footings, so even though she spent most of her life helping enslaved people find freedom from their bondage, she moved on to other causes that needed that perseverance and tenacity. This quote is directly related to the unrecognized, harrowing work that women performed on the battlefield.

Harriet should serve as a reminder to all of us that there will always be more to do.

Welcome to JeffyMakesItFun: my lil corner of the internet for history, storytelling, strange facts, innovation, pop culture, creative projects, and whatever else crashes into my brain hard enough to demand a paragraph or twelve.

By day, I’m a director at a nonprofit, helping build programs, partnerships, community, and opportunities for people who deserve more of them. By night—and frequently during inconvenient in-between moments—I’m a startup founder working in the HR tech space, trying to help make hiring less broken, less biased, and a little more human.

I love history. Not the dry “here are fourteen dates and a guy named Henry” version of history, either. I love the messy human version: the inventions that changed everything, the people history tried to erase, the weird little decisions that accidentally reshaped the future, and the stories sitting at the intersection of innovation, invention, STEAM, women’s history, social progress, and general historical chaos.

I also love storytelling in basically every form. I publish regularly on The JMIF Blog and Medium, have a few published stories floating around on Wattpad, and am currently working on both a novel and a memoir—because apparently having one massive writing project wasn’t enough. But honestly, who isn’t working on a novel these days?

A few other important facts about me:

I’m socially liberal and socially awkward.

I hate—HATE—racism and sexism. There is no clever qualifier coming after that.

I’m a Certified CatDad™.

I am a full-on 3D-printing maniac.

My music taste is aggressively eclectic, and I love live shows enough to willingly stand in a sticky room with strangers for three hours.

I love road trips, meeting new people, libraries, LEGO, coloring on the regular, and learning things I did not know five minutes ago.

I try to read at least 50 books a year, though I have recently discovered audiobooks and now fully understand why people become audiobook evangelists.

Libraries remain the best places ever invented. No notes.

I’m also active across ThingsBook, X, Facebook, BlueSky, Instagram, Threads, Snapchat, Pinterest, and TikTok, because apparently I enjoy giving every social platform a tiny piece of my attention span.

This Tumblr will probably be a mix of history rabbit holes, original writing, odd observations, book and movie thoughts, creative experiments, social-progress commentary, 3D-printing nonsense, cat energy, and things that make me say, “Wait. That’s actually kind of fascinating.
