The One Feature That Convinced Me SweetDream Is Worth It
I'm skeptical by default, and I went into sweetdream.ai expecting to be underwhelmed. The feature that turned that around was memory paired with emotional read. Plenty of apps can string together a coherent reply. Far fewer can do it while remembering that you mentioned a deadline two days ago and asking how it went. That small act of recall is what makes an AI companion feel present rather than performative.
Once that clicked, the rest of the platform made more sense as a package. The deep character creation gives the conversation a stable personality to draw from. The human-sounding voice messages and real-time calls extend the same realism into audio. And because everything stays private and discreet, there's no friction in actually being open.
If you're weighing options for an AI girlfriend, my honest take after testing is that the chat quality is the deciding factor, and SweetDream's is the most convincing I've used. It's the feature that turns a curiosity into something you look forward to.

I just want to talk about the power of commenting on fics for a minute.
I have my main fandom, but when I read in other fandoms, I don't know many of the writers. So I usually just find fics by looking through the tag I want. And if it's a tag I'm really interested in, I'll read every fic in the tag. And if there's a fic I really liked in there, I'll start reading everything by that writer.
So what this means is I'm sometimes reading fics or writers that don't have tons of hits/kudos/comments on their fics, but I found them through some obscure tag I wanted to read. And so I'll get back some really incredibly sweet replies to my comments.
But then, something even more incredible started happening. I'd be reading WIPs by some of these writers and they'd literally start writing the rest of the fic for me. They started asking me what I hoped to see happen or if I had any requests. And when the fic was finished, one of them said the only reason they kept writing the fic was for me.
Sometimes there can be such a lovely connection between the writer and the reader just because you decided to leave a comment. And sometimes you as the commenting reader can become the lone reason why a fic makes its way into the world for all the other readers who come after you.
Uh- are you aware of the meaning of proship?
Proship has never meant anything except a combination of three ideas:
Ship and let ship (your ships don't harm me and vice-versa) and YKINMK (your kink is not my kink, and that's okay; my kink stories don't harm you and vice-versa)
Harassment over fiction is not acceptable
Censorship of fiction is not acceptable either
Any other definitions are made by antis, not proshippers, and are an attempt at revisionism to justify harassment based on false claims.
WAIT thatās what that means?? šš
everyone always has a dni for proshippers I thought it was something freaky or fucked up šš
Yeah. Antis like to claim that the "pro" means "problematic", but nope. "Pro" (for) is simply the opposite of "anti" (against), and all that "proship" really means is "Let everyone ship what they want, everyone mind their own business".
So, FYI you guys, sometimes if you go to your favorite writers and flail at them a lot about how much you love their fics with lots of specific examples, they will let you read thousands of words of their unpublished WIPs and you can flail even more. Also sometimes after that you get to be friends, too, and help them come up with ideas. And vice versa! This is pretty much the best thing in the world and it is called fandom.
hiii do you have a masterlist?
hi im sure i do somewhere, if you search it up in the little blog search thing! but i donāt write on this account anymore and havenāt in awhile, so i donāt have it or any of the works pinned :(
AO3 tags 101
So to classify its content Archive Of Our Own uses a system called ātaggingā, and Iāve seen quite a lot of people puzzled as to how exactly it is used. This is going to be a long post trying to clear that up, and hopefully providing some help and orientation.
(i am going to use a lot of fanfiction terminology in this post ā you can look a lot of it up in this post)
What is tagging?
To cite the AO3 FAQ: āA tag is a keyword or phrase that you add to your works to make them easier to find.ā Tags also have the, at least as important purpose, of helping readers avoid content they donāt want to read.
Some of the AO3 tags are more or less mandatory: you have to chose a fandom, a rating, an archive warning from the available options (and be it āchose not to use those optionsā).Ā
Those mandatory tags have pretty detailed explanation boxes, which is why iām focusing on the more puzzling domain of āAdditional tagsā, or āFreeform tagsā:
(As said in its name, those tags areĀ āfreeformā, which means the author is entirely free to chose whatever keywords and catchphrase they want, be it some common tags, misspelled common tags, or new tags theyāre introducing. If itās a new tag, the AO3 tag wrangling staff then checks if it fits into a more common category, or if it stands on its own.Ā
Iāve seen people asking the following questions:
Why do i have to use freeform tags?
Well first off you absolutely donāt have to. But it gives readers additional info on whether your fic fits their taste, and can therefore get more people to read it.Ā
I know sometimes i look at the summary, thinkĀ āmehā, but then i see in the tags that the fic uses some of my favorite tropes and end up giving it a shot.Ā
Also, it helps people find your fic again! A former reader is wondering āOh, dang, i donāt remember the name nor the author but it had unicorns and mutual piningā? If your fic uses those tags they can find it without any problem through the search engine.
And, and i canāt stress this enough: it helps people that absolutely loathe the kind of content you create (because sensibilities are different, so sometimes itās bound to happen) to stay waaay clear of it. Which is good for everybody involved.
But what if it spoilers my story?
Fear not! AO3 offers the neat option to hide the freeform tags as a default (for logged-in users); so whether your readers decide to look at the tags or not is completely up to them.Ā
Me? I very rarely look at tags. I dislike being spoilered, and i accept that iāll probably end up reading things that donāt really float my boat as a consequence. And on the contrary i have friends whoād much rather put up with spoilers if it means they know what theyāre getting into. Matter of personal taste, really!Ā
As an author you can merely provide that option for readers who enjoy additional info beforehand. Itās a bit of a friendly courtesy.
How many tags should I use?
Again, itās completely up to personal taste. Iām not a big fan of huge walls of tags, because i donāt think theyāre read in details by most readers, so iād recommend between 3-7 tags for shorter stories (<5k words). For longer stories, readers often want to know in more details in what journey theyāre getting into, so up to twenty tags is game in my books. More than that tends to look cluttered and distracting (again, my biased opinion).
What kind of tags should I use?
*rubs hands* This is where I suggest my neat lilā classification of freeform tags (with some minor overlaps here and there). Itās based on observations and my own fandom experiences, so obviously it has no objective value, but i think itās still a good summary of the different types of freeform tags used for most fics. Some kind of fics (iām thinking PWP) have slightly different tagging conventions, but the following typology applies to most stories.Ā
You can use it as a checklist, or simply as inspiration on what kind of tags might apply to your fic.
Hereās my typology!
1. Format
These tags specify if your fic follows a particular fixed format in regard to length and style.Ā Hereās some of the most common āformat tagsā:
(Double/Triple) DrabbleĀ
EpistolaryĀ
Ficlet (Collection)
ImagineĀ
Novel/NovellaĀ
(Short) One ShotĀ
Poetry
POV First Person
Self-Insert
Screenplay/Script Format
Songfic
Stand Alone
Vignette ā¦
2. Genre
This oneās already a bit more tricky because so often thereās no over-archingĀ āgenreā in which your fic might fit (which is why thereās all the other tags to help you put some kind of label on your content!). Still, genre is a pretty important descriptor for your content; hence here are some of the commonĀ āfanfic genresā:Ā Ā
Action/Adventure
Angst
Badfic
Character Study
Crack
Dark(-fic)
Fluff
Friendship
Humor
Horror
Kidfic
Romance
RPF/RPS
Porn Without Plot/Plot What Plot ā¦
3. Relationship to Canon
Thatās one super cool in my books, because itās sooo unique to fanfic. It specifies in what kind of relationship to the original content your story operates. Most common tags:
Alternate Timeline
Alternate Universe
Alternate Universe: X (e.g. werewolves)
Backstory
Canon-compliant
Canon-divergent
Crossover
Fix-It
Fusion
Missing Scene
Post-Canon
Pre-Canon/Pre-Series
Reboot ā¦
4. Fandom-specific tags
These tags are particularly relevant for book or movie series where the overarching fandom tag covers a really broad amount of content. Those tags give orientation in regards to which part of the canon content weāre talking about. For example, Harry Potter fandom may use terms like āMaraudersā Eraā or āThe Golden Trio Eraā to specify what part of the original timeline the fic takes place in.Ā
But they also apply to fandom-specific events like Big Bangs/Reverse Big Bang, or fandom-specific tropes, genres and fanfic conventions. These are different for every fandom!
5. Common Fanfic Tropes
Thereās a slight overlapping with āgenreā, but all in all those tropes are a bit more specific, though widespread enough to be recognizable to avid fanfic readers.
Domestic
Everyone is alive
Fuck or Die
Getting together
Hurt/Comfort
Pining
Sex Pollen
Slow Burn
Soulmates
Time Travel
USTĀ Ā Ā
Whump ā¦Ā Ā Ā
And last but not least:
6. Content Warnings
Reminder that thereās mandatory archive warnings for AO3ās big four (underage sexual content, non-con/rape, graphic depictions of violence, character death) that you have to use, or at least indicate to readers you chose not to use them.Ā
You are not required to use further content warnings and no one can blame you for it, as long as you used the mandatory warnings properly. But there are some benefits to additional content warnings:
1. It frames the āproblematic behavior XYā (e.g emotional blackmail) you depicted as a problematic behavior, which makes readers both aware that itās Bad⢠(important especially for younger audiences) and that the author knows itās Badā¢.
2. It helps people that wouldnāt enjoy that content avoid it, which, good for them, good for you
3. It helps people that are actively searching for specific dark and difficult topics, for whichever reason, to find them.
All in all iād say it has established itself as a widespread fandom etiquette to tag content commonly viewed as squicky/triggery. Here are some of the most common ones:
(Past/Implied) (Child/Emotional) Abuse
Age Difference
Alcohol/Drugs
Body Horror
Coercion/Jealousy/Manipulation
(Very) Dubious Consent
Gore
Kinks
Mental Health Issues (Eating Disorders, PTSD, Depression etc.)
Pregnancy/Abortion/Miscarriage
(Internalized) Racism/Homophobia/Misogyny
Explicit Sexual Content
Terminal Illness
Torture
Suicide/Suicidal Thoughts ā¦
(andĀ hereās a far more complete list of content warnings, but you get the gist)
VoilĆ !Ā

and when I move blogs to focus more on dc comics again because thatās where my brainrot leads me back to every time, then what š
Love and Deepspace (2024), Infold Games
it's 2024 i'm done arguing. if ur still using character ai i'm straight up killing u
i mean this in the most encouraging way possible: write reader x canon fanfiction. write oc x canon fanfiction. or read it. go roleplay oc x canon with your friends like you're teenagers again. everything, and i do mean everything, that seems "cringe" is better in comparison. stop feeding a bot. stop contributing to the normalisation of technology that puts writers out of work.
"This fic was ai generatedā" Cool, so lemme block you real quick
i immediately thought of this
Let's not... Feed people's work to A.I without their permission please. I don't care how much you liked someone's work, some of you will run to that stupid ai. Chatbot thing and feed it a fanwriters work before you ever go into their comments or reblogs to tell them you even liked the fucking FIC, who do you think you are? I have zero respect for people who do this, you're fucked up, uncreative pieces of shit. If you want more of something from a creator, you use your little noggin and you come up with something nice to say. "Hi I really loved this fic, would you ever write more?" And if the writer says no, that's their fucking prerogative because they fucking wrote it. I don't give a shit how badly you want street racer Anakin to fuck you don't feed people's shit A.I.
seriously itās really unflattering and disrespectful and gross. no matter how good you think your intentions are, actively allowing AI to invade creative (and free content) spaces is something nobody should tolerate.

we are in a media literacy crisis
friendly reminder that characters don't need to be saints to be entertaining. and telling a story does not mean endorsement. art does not need to be all about morally good people.
IDK if this was meant as hyperbole but it's literally true:
Adult literacy is low.
Child literacy is low.
Information literacy has shifted dramatically in the last decade, but reputable information sources like research journals and factual news reporting have been unable to keep pace.
We are genuinely in a crisis of media literacy, with ever fewer genuinely factual resources available in the style and language used by contemporary audiences.
It may sound condescending, but we genuinely need to remind people, or worse, explain to them for the first time that art is not evidence of real world behaviour.
So, thank you, for this reminder. Genuinely.
You're correct:
Art does not need to feature exclusively morally pure characters. Art is not proof of the creator's secret, violent desires.
