Pierre Huyghe (French, b.1962)
L’Expédition scintillante, Act 2 (Light Box) - 2002
Smoke and light system, sound
Music: Gymnopédies 3 and 4 by Erik Satie (1888) orchestrated by Claude Debussy
@ Esther Schipper Gallery, Berlin
I managed to catch this at Pierre’s exhibition at Turramurra gallery just out of Melbourne, in 2015. It also deliberately featured *LIVE ANTS* in the exhibition, tracing along sections of the gallery walls. This part of the exhibit was a delight though... the scale is confusing in a photo, but it’s about the shape of a small bed, which makes the highly synchronised gig lighting feel strangely compelling... it starts up, runs through it’s movements over a song, then fades out, a miniature event capsule...

DRIFT, Fragile Future, on view at the Shed through December 19.
Really love the feel of these... the lighting, the suggestion of weight (and the ignoring of gravity)

Delighted to finally showcase a slice of these concert visuals for Ania Reynolds. Slow-cooked across the rolling Melbourne lockdowns of 2020-21.
