For many turns whispers have filled the ears of Hingashi citizens; rumors of violence, darkness, depravity— a secret culmination of shadowy powers that work their hands in all manners of business throughout the whole of the One Sea. Even with the Garlean Occupancy, these families found ways to reconvene and keep their ever intangible power in place. These families, the ‘yakuza’ families of the East, found means by which not only to keep a revolving door of power in place: but also a means to orchestrate organized chaos for their very own entertainment.

And it rises, rearing its bestial head.

[BALMUNG SERVER] From the shadows does the Mujihigi return to the world once more; a single crest that strikes a myriad of emotions into those who gaze upon it. For some, determination and excitement. For others? Fear.

WHAT IS THE MUJIHIGI? The Mujihigi is a  monthly underground fighting event, open to all underworld/syndicate and yakuza rpers on Balmung, including those with links to gambling and trafficking. In this fighting den, powerful criminal organizations/families and/or those with underworld ties from around the world will pit their fighters against one another for the glory of the champion’s title (Yokozuna), the riches acquired through bets (IC gil,) and for the honor of showcasing martial prowess and strength in the name of your family (This allows an FC/Group/Individual to name a champion on their behalf.)

Unsponsored Fighters will be placed within a pool of ‘potential fighters’ from the service pits (ie: loners, thieves, outcasts, prisoners who have requested freedom, indentured servants, etc) and will be ‘auctioned’ (for IC gil) to members of the Mujihigi’s many syndications to fight on their behalf for the event (a second to their own champion.) This allows lone rpers, characters who’s FC may not necessarily wish to be involved wholly, or someone who wants their character to foray through the fighting den to make those connections and gain potential reputation for their character.

Each Mujihigi consists of 7 fighters: Yokozuna (Champion) included and is preceded by ‘Hype Night.’

WHAT IS HYPE NIGHT? Hype Night is an event preceding every Mujihigi that is more of a social gathering of aforementioned malignants where they mingle, place bets, make backroom deals and consider purchase of unclaimed fighters. It is a night of celebration, with performances and plenty of connections to be made.

Bets will only be placed on Hype Night so that everyone can focus on the actual fights.

ARE THERE ANY PRIZES? After some considerations, we decided to have a small pot made up OOCly for the one who bids on the overall winner of the Mujihigi. This pot consists of 800k, to be split amongst any other correct bidders. 

There will also be a smaller pot for new fighters who participate in the Mujihigi that make it to Round Three, to be split if two newcomers make it to that round. This pot consists of 200k.

HOW DO THE FIGHTS WORK?

Information about how the fights are run from a technical standpoint can be found here. Cut off is 9/13! HOW DO I SPONSOR A FIGHTER? It’s actually pretty easy! Sponsorship is simply bringing your organization/business into the fold and putting your IC gil up for sponsoring your fighter. These details can all be talked about in advance (or also rped out— whichever is more convenient!) A representative for your organization however must be present at both Hype Night and Fight Night. Please contact me ( @rebel-and-rouge ) for an invite to our discord server for more information! I’M UNSPONSORED, WHAT DOES THAT MEAN FOR ME? Not a problem! Hype Night is the day where unsponsored fighters are put up to have their “fees” paid by an organization in exchange for their participation. This is a way to network, but also a way to further side stories by integrating your character with another’s in a way that may see their debt paid back either by winning, or by other tasks ordained by the sponsor. These side stories are absolutely important to have discussed OOCly, but that was what this event was for! Making stories! If you do not receive any bids, do not worry! The House will take on your sponsorship costs, and thus you will just be at the will of the Enforcers. HOW DOES BETTING WORK? No actual gil will be exchanged. The bets are entirely IC. Odds will be given on every fighter during the hype night. Winning wagers placed will ICly reflect these given odds in the payouts offered. When betting, please look for at betting representative at the desk or Camille Everardi during Hype Night. All bookies will have a [looking for meld] tag during hype night and will be near the desk of the event hall. You’re welcome to send a /tell or RP out the wager in the line at the betting desk with one of the bookies. If you’d like an IC storyline to occur from a lost bet, please let us know OOCly so the House can continue the story appropriately based on the outcome if your character cannot pay for a wager that was made on credit. [Please remember all wagers are IC and no actual gil will be exchanged!]

If most of this seems like a copy past of the previous one, that’s kinda cuz it is haha. With different art at the top haha. 

I’ve been active for like 4 months and it’s been…up and down but I love all the friends I’ve made so much <3. But thank you so much for 500 followers! I set out to create this blog to just meet more people after coming back from a year break and being like “I don’t know anyone…” And wow… I was super nervous to bring Rei to tumblr and just RP him in general. He’s a bit more out there compared to characters I usually play, so it’s been really fun getting out of my comfort zone a bit for him.And now I have…two other boys haha. Ehra and Zhin. I may make a third even cuz Hong Kong mafia sound like fun too! dies

I’ve been thinking about it for a while and I finally had the time to work on a really simple walkthrough of my design process for armors! Hope it can be useful :D

Before designing the attire I like to define first who this character is going to be, based on their alignment, their role, job and so on. I used a random dnd character generator and found a simple but cool prompt:

Based on this brief description the first step to take is to get a good silhouette and pose. Figure drawing and silhouette studies are a good method of exercise: they train you to think without any sort of detail. The pose alone should convey the whole mood. I wanted my human paladin to be an aged veteran knight in medium build, ready to strike and prepared to carry her weight in battle with two swords.

Armor is a tricky subject but only when you don’t know it. I study a lot from real traditional armor, because before designing something I have to figure out how it actually works in real life. I could recommend lots of book to buy but Pinterest does an amazing job in providing you with an endless stream of inspiration and photos/illustrations to study (Osprey Publishing has fantastic books about armor, weapons and military from 10th century and before to 20th century). I believe in functionality over beauty but with a middle ground that makes both aspects look good together instead of clashing (I’m looking at you, Korean concept artists): it’s my job to find a compromise between them. A good example to study is something like this:

Simple, readable, every rivet shown makes it understandable to know how to move into an armor like this. I also take lots of inspiration from fashion design but it’s another whole world lol, https://www.vogue.com/fashion-shows is pretty much the Bible for that since there’s a complete list of every season of pret-a-porter and couture from 1990 to the present day. It’s a fun game to play!

Question yourself when you design, “can I wear this? How? If I were to make a cosplay of this, how would I layer everything?”, if you’re aiming for realism you have to follow certain rules and guidelines. Speaking of guidelines, this is a simplification of the parts of the armor I want for this character.

You can call it a day and be done with it by refining the sketch a bit now. This is a good design, boring but functional. How do we make it more interesting? By using shapes and patterns to create a general theme, adding cloth parts like a cape and undershirt and all the elements needed like belts, chain mail and so on. Rectangles? Amazing. Circles into rectangles?? Beautiful craftsmanship (go wild)

This is looking like a real character now, congrats! Here’s where the fun really begins though: details. Once the silhouette is defined you can customize the character all the way and make it look like there’s a story to be told even in the armor. I like to think of a theme and apply it to pretty much everything, it’s usually animals or flowers because often times knights had themes like those. This woman is a fierce, fearless mom figure, tired but wise, willing to help the young adventurers to see them leave the nest and fly on their own… like a bird… but like, a cool bird? Like a cool bird often associated with freedom?

Eagle theme are all over the armor: it intrigues the viewer and makes the design look complex enough to be interesting on its own. The knee and elbow parts are wings now, one of the pauldrons has a raging eagle coming out of it (asymmetrical details are cool!), the important parts connecting the armor are shown with little details that make it look like a custom made set. At this point I’m satisfied and can go onto colors, then rendering.

Colors take a big part into the character design but it’s not something I feel good enough to cover lol, the only advice I can share regarding this is to have in mind the materials of the outfit. Right now the breastplate is in a grey zone: a slight change in material can turn a decorated breastplate into a half coat. Defining material when you’re sketching is a neat way to save yourself some time and get a bit less stressed when you get to painting.
