Every time something like this happens, all I ever wonder about is how a good portion of the community I've lived in can continue to deny that racism exists. Former classmates and "friends" can continue to tell me that All Lives Matter and that the police are justified in ending black lives without being held accountable. Even when I can show them videos, show them statistics, show them every ounce of factual evidence, they retort with stupid racist memes and facts they read from a racist tweet, all so they can continue to dwell in ignorance and live life in a "happy" bubble. This is what saddens me the most, because I know as long as people like this exist, the path to getting these issues acknowledged and fixed will be even harder. Closed minds don't ever help society GROW or PROSPER. So to those folks, just because these incidences don't primarily occur in this primarily white neighborhood, doesn't mean that these things aren't happening. Literally talk to ONE black person about their life experience, and I'm positive what they tell you will be different than yours. I've SEEN my friends get interrogated by police for no reason. I've had a friend get interrogated by police walking home from work at Starbucks with his GREEN APRON ON because somehow he looked "suspicious". This same friend has been called the N-word walking home from our high school and has had food thrown at him. And I've SEEN active KKK members 10 minutes outside of my town. And these incidences aren't even EVERYTHING that I've heard or seen. So just WAKE UP and help do something. If you're so patriotic and if you LOVE this country so damn much, then HELP AND SPEAK UP for your fellow AMERICANS. #AltonSterling #PhilandoCastile #BlackLivesMATTER
