FP had sat there when they came in to take the breathing tube out. Watching them closely to make sure nothing happened and also to make sure his son was breathing on his own. He sat back into the chair and waited for him to wake up. The next thing he realized the machine was beeping and Jughead was shaking. FP shot up quickly and pressed the call button, sure that the nurses were already alarmed from the machines going off. âJug!â He called out âsomeone helpâ he yelled to anyone out there.
Nurses swarmed into the room as they received the alert that Jughead was seizing, insisting that FP stood outside of the room while they worked on him. âMr.Jones please stand outside, we need the room and youâd, unfortunately, get in the way.â said one particularly gentle nurse. Meanwhile, they lowered the hospital bed so he was lying flat and removed his pillows, allowing his body to continue to contort, but without the added danger of suffocating or hurting himself. One nurse had begun a timer, and after a minute had passed he began to calm some before the only tremoring came from his hand. The increased his oxygen supply and took his vitals before they exited the room. âHeâs fine, Mr. Jones. Just a mild seizure. If that happens again to remove the pillow from behind his head and start a timer and call again. You did the right thing. Heâll be fine. Just a little groggy and might get sick when he wakes.â
Watching the nurses storm the room and then be told he needed to standing in the hall, FP couldnât wrap his head around any of it. âJug, Jugâ he called out, knowing he wasnât going to get an answer but still so worried. Once he was in the hall he began pacing up and down the small corridor, his hands running through his hair âcâmon Jugâ he mumbled to himself before sliding down the wall and sitting on the ground. He pulled his face out of his hands and looked up at the nurses as they told him what to do next. âI appreciate everything youâre doing. But we take one step forward and two back, every time. I just want me son back and out of here.â he shook his head before getting up to go be with him in the room. âJug, câmon boy.â he mumbled as he sat down next to him âi need you to wake up. We need to get you out of here.â
