It’s one of the many times I’ve been to N.O. but this trip was only to take in the jazz scene. “Code Noir” was implemented in the Louisiana Territories to basically give slaves a day off (imagine that smh). So Congo Square in New Orleans is where the slaves gathered on Sundays to sell goods, dance, sing etc. Over time this evolved and gave birth to jazz.
