A reaction youtuber I like reacted to the final episode and I was. Pretty nervous at first because he started the video with “Sometimes I miss things, sorry if I miss obvious themes/scenes”, so imagine my relief when he clocked the gender dysphoria thing IMMEDIATELY and said, explicitly, “Okay, so trans Jax is just canon now, right?”. He did use he/him for Jax for most of the video (they/them during parts he added during edited), but added a small disclaimer at the bottom of the screen that said it didn’t occur to him to switch pronouns until after and that he’s sorry for using he/him. And it’s just both relieving and baffling to me that a man who has openly identified as cishet and who said he missed themes understood the message better than so many queer, sometimes even trans, people

It’s crazy how many people are saying things like “It’s fine if you see Jax as a woman, I just personally see her as transmasc!!” Like, what you’re doing is looking at a trans woman and going “No, he’s a man actually”. I feel like I’m in the twilight zone. How are people who identify as trans, who proudly label themselves as being against transphobia, going, “Ummmm.. that’s a man lol. Why are you mad at me for saying that? I’m not being transphobic, I’m just saying, I personally see him as a man! Okay, yeah, if you want to call him a woman, that’s fine, I won’t stop you, but he’s actually a man.”

While a part of me (cis guy) feels I lost some relatability with Jax and is a bit sad about it (more as in their experiences are def meant for closeted tfems as opposed to guys who felt like they werent masc enough), I'm more than happy that were getting some large-scale trans rep, and my mild sadness (that im trying to get over) over losing relatability with a character is def worth losing if it means trans characters will be more wildly accepted. Heres hoping more transfem and transmasc characters will come and be loud and proud! (Sorry if this is random, I just wanted to get my chest off on my feelings somewhere. Love all you amazing trans ppl! Hope the world is kinder to you one day <3)
