i was babysitting a little boy and girl once and the boy asked me if i had a boyfriend and i said “no!! but i have a girlfriend!” and he said “like a friend thats a girl?” and i said “no like a boyfriend but they’re a girl instead of a boy! we still do couple things but we’re just both girls” and he said, without missing a beat, “oh ok! are you gonna marry her?”

people are rlly taking for granted how gracious, humble, lovely, patient & kind sonequa martin-green is, as an actor, as a person, and most importantly, as the face of star trek today, and how if this was anyone else helming, they would not be taking “trek fans”’ shit with the abuse she got. think about the amount of racist backlash the role got, the harsh criticism no white guy in a leading role would get nearly as scrutinised for (saying this as a white guy myself, the bias is so obvious… especially when people complained disco was too michael-centric… as if that isn’t common w a lot of tv w a white guy at the centre to everything, but make it a black woman and it’s distracting all of a sudden?!) … anyway so yeah she turned all that bs into hard work, patience, grace… like just watch her interview w piers morgan… she is so incredibly eloquent and patient as a person against people who oppose her. there’s no fire to her… unlike the cool characters she plays, all she gives is a gentle educational tap on the shoulder and a kindly gesture to hope the show brings people together, while she eloquently explains her viewpoints.
