my favorite comment in the thread was:

since kikyo was a young girl, she had to be strong as hell because literally hundreds of people were depending on her. in her own words “I must never waver, I must never show weakness, or else a demon will get the better of me. I am an ordinary woman, but I can’t reveal myself as such.”

she was ordinary, she felt hate and anger and love and joy and all these normal emotions, but she had to hide it all the time and just be this stoic priestess. can you imagine how lonely that was? being surrounded by people who literally worshiped you, but only if you erased every single part of your personality, your emotions, always putting them before yourself? it’s a wonder that she didn’t grow resentful and angry.

and when she falls in love, like a normal woman would, it’s the end of the world. firstly, someone of her stature in the community should never fall in love- it shows weakness and exposes her to demons. secondly, it’s a half demon, which, wow, holy shit, that’s who she was put on this earth to destroy. so she feels guilty and confused and upset and lonely and probably resentful at the fact she isn’t allowed to fall in love

and then it ends in the most disastrous way and she’s betrayed and killed. that’s just fucking great, that’s not a tragic storyline at all.

and tHEN this woman doesn’t even get the luxury of resting in peace? no, some witch comes along and revives her, making her relive the pain and hurt and anger and betrayal she felt at her death. except now she has to relive that every moment of every day. and inuyasha is running around, alive as well, and she’s still in love with him, but she’s conflicted and upset and meanwhile, she still!!!!!! is doing her duty to the townspeople and humanity as a priestess

let me repeat this to you, homegirl is DEAD and she’s still helping the humans who put her so high on a pedestal that she couldn’t help but come crashing down

and yall mother fuckers want to complain about how much you hate her because “she gets in the way of inuyasha and kagome”
