Today (17th February) officially marks the first day in accordance with the lunar calendar. This year belongs to the Fire Horse! Onwards to some galloping fun facts!🔥🐎💖

Those born under this hardworking and morally-just zodiac sign are said to very warmhearted and independant. Tenacious and energetic, yet agreeable when needed, Horses rarely accept defeat when they are fighting for a cause they believe in. ✨️

Fire Horses in particular are charismatic, lively and charming. However at times they may be incredibly stubborn, as they dislike being reigned in. 🐴

Have a pair of Holly Mice to celebrate the day! Affectionately known as "duff* reindeer" or "dufflings", Holly Mice emerge from their burrows and nests in the middle of winter sporting backs of holly and antlers, which serve as nutrition (holly berries) and protection respectively. During the rest of the year, they are virtually indistinguishable from other woodland mice.

While they usually stay far away from human settlements, Holly Mice have begun to find their way into homes during Christmas, where they are seen as a symbol of good luck and merry tidings.

So leave some fruits and nuts out today. You never know when a Holly Mouse (or two!) might appear 💖🎄🐭

Today (29th January) officially marks the first day in accordance with the lunar calendar. This year belongs to the Wood Snake! 🪵🌳🐍💖

Those born under this slithery zodiac sign are said to very enigmatic and intuitive. Private and reserved, Snakes tend to act according to their own judgements. They are also very determined to accomplish their goals and dislike failure.

Wood Snakes in particular are charming, intelligent and creative, with a refined taste. However they may also be overly secretive, cunning and sometimes ruthless.

My Wood Snake is inspired by the colours of the Rainbow Eucalyptus (Eucalyptus deglupta) and the bark pattern of the Chinese Elm (Ulmus parvifolia). It also has Ganoderma lingzhi fungi growing from its body. This particular fungus is known as the mushroom of immortality and is revered in traditional Chinese medicine.

Be sure to check your pinecones for pinecone sprites, and your chimneys, fireplaces and stovetops for soot wyrms!

Pinecone sprites, as their names suggest, are only found in pinecones. These ghostly lil' creatures are mostly dormant throughout the year, and only emerge from their pinecone shelters during autumn and winter.

With their long bodies, stubby legs, and more or less vestigial wings, Pumpkin Drakes are here to claim people's jack o' lanterns as their own!

Domestication and breeding has led to wonderful and curious-looking morphs in this species which are not observed in their wild counterparts. The candycorn morph is a fairly new colouration, but has proven to be extremely popular amongst younger magic users.

Pumpkin Drakes are a rambunctious species. Even in places where there are an abundance of pumpkins, they can often be seen in scuffles with others of their kind for what they consider to be the best pumpkin to nest in for the next few days. Pet Pumpkin Drakes can be housed in pumpkin-shaped receptacles, but it is recommended to give them access to a real pumpkin at least once a month.

When a pumpkin has been obtained, these small dragons will proceed to hollow it out, eating the flesh and seeds in the process (they are omnivores). With jack o' lanterns, the work of emptying out the pumpkin has already been done for them, so it's no wonder more and more wild Pumpkin Drakes have been seen in neighbourhoods during the Halloween season!
