Monet at Poissy (15) At the seventh Wiith great effort, Caillebotte, the art dealer Paul Durand-Ruel and ultimately Pissarro persuaded the reluctant Monet to participate in the seventh impressionist exhibition (he had refused to join them in the previous two). Durand-Ruel put all his effort in organizing the exhibition, since he needed it to be a big success. After all, he had just fallen into serious financial difficulties, due to the bankruptcy of the “Union Générale” bank which had lent him large sums of money that he had invested in impressionist art. In the end, Monet really couldn’t refuse to help out his friend. He chose the paintings and titles for the show from his hotel in Pourville and reluctantly set off to Paris to attend the opening of the event on 1 March 1882. No less than 35 of his paintings were on show and the Fécamp seascapes in particular were a big success. Perhaps some of those above were present at the exhibition?
