Actually Iām kinda realizing I like, never talked about the general bullet points of the Kingās Knight AUās plot cause 19 year old me assumed I would make like an active fanfic or something with it and didnāt wanna spoil it. I know now I never get anything done if I put too much effort into keeping things unspoiled so uh. Several year overdue synopsis of my Kingās Knight AU AKA āThe AU where Team Plasma kidnaps a childā (Will put things under a cut cause shockingly, the AU involving child kidnapping has bad things happening to canonical minors, so CW for fictional child abuse, as well as mentions of grooming in the context of a cult. Also Iām so sorry this is gonna be so long Iāve had this AU for like 4 years now I need to dump JSIJDJCJFJD)
-Hilbert and Hilda are twins and are very close to one another in their early childhood. When theyāre around five years old, Hilda wants to go run off to play in the tall grass with Hilbert near their home in Nuvema despite how dangerous everyone says it is without a PokĆ©mon. Hilbert is hesitant, but Hilda eventually talks him into it
-The two eventually get separated in the grass, and when Hilbert is alone and scared, he runs into Ghetsis. He lures Hilbert away with him, acting like heāll be bringing Hilbert somewhere safe so that his family can find him. Meanwhile, Hilda struggles to find Hilbert. Panicked, she eventually ignores the fact sheād likely get in trouble and goes to tell her mom that she canāt find her brother. Residents of Nuvema and local law enforcement search for weeks for Hilbert, but every trace runs cold. Hilda blames herself for her brotherās disappearance for years, becoming reclusive and only really allowing herself to socialize with those already in her social circle (Her mom, Cheren, and Bianca). Despite her depression, she has faith throughout the years that Hilbert may still be out there. She doesnāt know how to explain it, but she feels like she can always sense that heās still alive out there, somewhereā¦
-Meanwhile, Ghetsis brings back Hilbert to the Plasma Castle. His intentions were he wanted an extra pawn in his plans with N. It took him ages to get his hands on the Harmonia of legend, and the last thing he wanted to risk was his valuable puppet getting damaged on his eventual journey. He decided the King needed a Knight to guard him, and he didnāt just want any old grunt to take on such a role, he needed to mold them to be unwaveringly loyal so that they wonāt cause N to waver without outside knowledge. This, is why he kidnapped such a young child such as Hilbert. Heās already playing the long game with N, may as well take advantage and raise a child to be nothing more than a guard to N
-This is an extra fucked up thing 18 year old me came up with. Inspired by the manga where Hilbert uses a Munna to clear his head, a similar thing happens in this AU, except instead of clearing his head, Ghetsis uses a Munna to, essentially erase his memories almost completely. Heās young enough where he doesnāt have a ton of memories, so Munna is used to make him a completely clean slate to groom into the perfect Knight for N. He doesnāt remember his friends, his hometown, hell, he doesnāt even remember his name is Hilbert. He gets told his title is The Knight, and thatās essentially his name now, heās Knight, and thatās who he was born to be
-Despite the mind wipe, theres still fragments in the back of his mind that he canāt exactly pinpoint. Theres still parts of him that somewhat remember his sister, but itās so fussy he canāt remember who she is or why he has a vague idea he knows her. She sometimes appears in his dreams, but itās so scattered he canāt tell if sheās someone he made up in these dreams or not.
-In Plasma, Knight is given a similar treatment to N, if not far worse. His room is designed only for utility, to train him to be a good guard for N, and not one good for the growth of a child. However, he *is* allowed to leave to visit N on occasion, as Ghetsis deemed it necessary for the two to be on good terms. Despite the age difference, they enjoy playing games together, and grow to see each other as brothers. Knight also ends up viewing Ghetsis as his father
-During one of these visits, N asks if Knight has a āreal nameā, since N is the King yet has his own name, he assumed Knight was the same case. When Knight says he (to his knowledge, at least) doesnāt have a real name, the two decide to brainstorm a name together, at least for N to refer to him as. Since theyāre both kids at this point, they struggle to come up with a good name. Though eventually, N comes up with the name āTrunkā, which sounds weird, but he rations it as since N has green hair like leaves, and Hilbert has brown hair like tree bark, it can be like a metaphor, as the trunk of a tree is needed to uplift and support the leaves and branches of a tree, almost like how Knight is gonna support N on his mission in the future. Itās weird in a child like way, but Knight ends up loving the name, considering it a cherished gift from his brother that only N refers to him as
Unfortunately this comes with the side effect of me being attached to a guy named Trunk. 18 year old me you cooked, but god damnit you used insane ingredients /silly
-Eventually the time comes for Nās coordination, and as such, Trunk is officially knighted by N. He is now The Kingās Knight (title card drop wow)
-Meanwhile, Hilda is convinced to finally go out on her Pokemon adventure by her friends, as well as by her mom, who never stopped loving her despite what happened. In memory of Hilbert, she wears the hat he was going to wear on his journey when he got old enough
-For the most part, the game plays out similarly to in canon. Knight sticks to watching over N from a distance, to avoid outing to the public Nās status as Plasmaās ruler. He also dawns a Zoroark mask in these public encounters, which he thinks is to keep anonymous to keep focus on N when the two are together, but really itās to prevent any chance of him somehow being identified as the stolen child from nearly a decade before. An illusion, in a way
-The first few encounters Hilda treats as generic grunt battles, assuming Knight is just someone she accidentally keeps bumping into. Despite this, the two can tell something is up between each other. Trunk recognizes Hilda as the girl from his dreams, and is confused at how familiar she is, but buries these questions as heās dedicated to his Kingās cause. Hilda, meanwhile, gets an intensely strong feeling around him, similar to the feeling she felt when believing Hilbert was still alive. Itās, distressing to her almost, not knowing what this almost physical feeling is or where itās coming from
-The mask slips during one encounter, literally, and here Hilda finally gets an answer to what sheās feeling. The masked grunt, heās Hilbert. She doesnāt know how she knows it, itās been so long, and heās visibly aged beyond recognition, but she knows it, she feels it, thatās Hilbert, alive in front of her. Despite how sure she is, Trunk denies it, fully convinced this girl has just lost her mind a bit and that they arenāt related. Despite this, when called Hilbert the first time, it shakes him to his core, he doesnāt know why, butā¦He feels like he knows that name, like it belongs to him
-The next encounters are more Hilda trying to convince Knight of who he is, what their connection is, trying desperately to bring him home. Knight keeps pushing her away, to the point of lashing out at her for her insistence. This eventually culminates in the Ferris Wheel scene, where Hilda, Trunk, and N all go on the Ferris wheel, and N confirms heās the King of Team Plasma, with Trunk being his Knight. Here, Hilda nearly lashes out at N, assuming he has to be the one behind this, with Trunk having to almost be physical with her to stop her from attacking his brother. After explaining how in their minds Knight couldnāt possibly be Hildaās brother, Hilda is left emotionally defeated, but eventually determined to have them see the truth of their connection, whatever the truth may be
-Skipping forward a bit. N ends up with Zekrom, and Hilda ends up with the white stone to revive Reshiram. She ends up taking on the hero of truth role, desperately hoping that thisāll be the thing that brings the truth to Trunk, that they are siblings. In the throne room, though, Hilda struggles to awaken the dragon. Trunk, frustrated thinking Hilda did nothing but waste their time this whole adventure, goes to snatch the stone from her to give to N. Itās nearly a tussle, but when both of them hold the stone, thatās when Reshiram awakens. Theyāre both the Heroes of Truth, and thatās what gave Hilda the feelings Hilbert was alive, what made her recognize him right away, and what kept Hilbert from forgetting his sister completely
-Hilda and N fight, and the whole reveal with Ghetsis occurs. Itās here he confirms the truth, that he kidnapped Hilbert all those years ago and wiped his memories, and is lashing out like he does in game. Trunk, in denial, tries to reason with Ghetsis, trying to call him his father. In disgust, Ghetsis hits him with his cane, shattering his mask on impact and breaking the illusion. He never viewed him as his child, not even in the way of pretending like he did with N, only seeing him as another tool to use on N
-Thankfully, after Ghetsisās defeat, Hilda gets a moment alone with Trunk and N, who sheās able to at least somewhat reconcile with. N, though objectively not at fault, still feels guilt his role in Plasma indirectly lead to the tragedy between these two siblings, and, as his last official order as King to his Knight, asks Trunk to stay with Hilda, to return to the family he lost, and to feel anything he wants about N, assuming Trunk would hate him now that everything is revealed. N then flies off, leaving Trunk distraught, as despite everything, he still loved N as still saw him as his brother. Thankfully, though, the twins are reunited, and can begin reconnecting and healing together
-Itās a rough recovery for both of them, coming to terms with what happened. Hilbert especially has a hard time adjusting to normal life, but with proper support, he begins to recover from the trauma of being treated as a guard dog by so many for so many years. He decides to continue being named Trunk, feeling a disconnect between himself and the kid Hilbert was. A choice Hilda supports him on. To him, the person Hilbert was died when they were five, leaving only Trunk in his image. He grieves Hilbert almost like how a family member would grieve a relative they never got to meet
-N does thankfully reunite with Trunk and Hilda down the line years later, likely in a scenario similar to Pokemas. He gets accepted into the family and gets to be a big brother to Trunk once again this time with no royalty barriers keeping them apart :]
