I wanted to share something with you. I often hear people using the term Haute Couture quite loosely which upsets me as a lover and purveyor of art in design. To utilise this as a throw away term is destroying a dying art form. Literally - French: Haute Couture. English: High Dressmaking. Haute Couture can be defined as high end fashion that is constructed by hand from start to finish, made from high quality, expensive, often unusual fabric sewn with extreme attention to detail and finished by the most experienced and capable sewers (& legally vetted and protected by the chambre des syndicale de la haute couture in Paris), often using time-consuming, hand executed techniques.
