“How are you and Nessie settling in with your new roommates?”

“You know, Nessie isn’t the strangest animal to come through our place.” Jana sat back on her elbows. “She just moved shells the other night. It was the cutest thing. She’s my baby before a mandrake is. How’d that go for you, by the way? I made money out of it.”

Aggie could feel her cheeks grow hot and she shook her head in a bashful sort of way. “You hadn’t told me that, no,” she answered, “But I’m happy to hear it.”

Jana, packed bag in tow, bid a farewell by wrapping her arms around Aggie in a short, sweet hug, “I’ll come visit.”

“It was very impressive.”

“Well, thanks. That means a lot coming from someone who’s way out of our league.”

D.W. tilted the canister and pushed down the nozzle until the whipped cream filled her mouth. “Wait, wait,” she insisted. “Don’t eat it. You need this first—” She took the chocolate syrup, and poured it in her hand, and finger-painted a chocolate mustache above Jana’s lip.

Jana quickly figured out what was being drawn. That with the cream she just swallowed had her saying, “I have never felt more like a male pornstar. Thanks.”

“I don’t think I’ve ever seen someone play Mine Field with as much grace as you did.”

“I added the cartwheel for a nice flair, thanks.”

“Don’t you trust me?” D.W. prompted, shaking the can of whipped cream with some amount of menace at her teammate’s waffle. “I know how much whipped cream a waffle needs.” 

“Do me first,” Jana said, opening her mouth wide for some whipped cream.

“Well, it sounds like you’re in good hands, then,” Aggie said, although her expression was somewhat melancholy, “As long as he makes you feel safe.”

“Aw,” Jana cooed, hand to her heart now. “Have I ever told you you’re my favorite person?”

“It’s a plant Jana, not an actual baby.” In case she wasn’t aware, Narcissa wanted to clarify. You would never know with Hufflepuffs, they were high all the time. Her lips pursed in distaste as she watched the other blonde.

“I wasn’t planning to put my mouth anywhere near a mandrake baby.” Narcissa narrowed her eyes. “You know, just like every other people with common sense.”

“You’re just full of that motherly love, aren’t you?” Jana purposely bent down and pecked the top of the mandrake’s head. “See you at the end of the week, little one. Have fun with them.”

“Precisely.” She confirmed with a nod. Narcissa grabbed her purse and took 25 galleons from it, after a second thought, she decided to make it 30. “There you go. I think this will be enough to heat up your homeless shelter called Hufflepuff Tower this month.”

“Don’t you kiss our baby with that mouth.” Jana gratefully took the bribe and stuffed them into the pockets of her cutoff jeans.

Narcissa stared at the shorter girl, rolling her eyes a little. “How much do you want?” A bribe has always been the answer for her but as far as she knew Jana was coming from a rich family too, so she doubted money could fix this problem, regardless she wanted to give it a try.

“You’re going to pay me? To take the child off my hands? For the week?” All she could see coming out of this was a good grade and shopping trip this week and not having to deal with a crying mandrake. “Sure. However many galleons you have in your pretty purse.” It wasn’t the money she needed, but she wouldn’t be bought for free.

All Mason had heard was boys, followed by an unintelligible stream of words. What choice did he have but to abandon his boiling pot of water to see what the fuss was about?

“What are you yelling about now, J?”

“Maaaaase,” She whined, “the water’s gone cold.”

Cissa shook the other blonde’s hand momentarily, quickly moved away and forced a smile. She certainly remembered the blonde, however she didn’t appreciate her presence back in Rosalind’s Hen’s night and she didn’t appreciate her presence now. “I do remember you, yes.” Narcissa sighed, looking over the mandrake. “Right…” She nodded, didn’t crack a smile at Jana’s joke. Taking care of a mandrake wouldn’t be a challenge for Cissa but working with a partner would be one. “Here what we are going to do; I am going to take care of the mandrake by myself because I have a feeling, if I left it with you, it would be dead within a minute.” 

“That’s a big, bold assumption for such a small girl.” Jana scoffed, keeping the mandrake glued to her hip for the moment. She wouldn’t let go that easily. She’d kept her hermit crab alive for as long as she had. She could definitely take care of a plant, right? The seed of doubt had been planted, though. “What do I get out of you taking my baby hostage?”

Jana chewed obnoxiously on a piece of gum as she stuck her hand out to shake her partner’s, mandrake baby on her hip already, “Hi, I’m Jana. I don’t know if you remember me.” She’d crashed, with Iris’ permission, that Nott hen’s party. The one with the strippers. “Our baby’s going to be real blonde, I can tell.”

Wendy laughed, even though she sometimes missed being with her brothers instead of all her dorm mates. She supposed she and Jana were simply different in that way. Not that she minded Jana’s company by any means.

“You ought to be careful about inviting me in,” Wendy said, avoiding the question about home without thinking about it. “I’ll never leave.”

“Well maybe that’s the point.” Jana teased, opening the fridge for a pitcher of orange juice. “Want any?” She asked, reaching for the cup she always used. “I’ve been thinking about next year, too. Like, if I’ll beg to stay in the houses or come back. I guess that decision doesn’t have to be made soon.”

Jana had been four minutes into her deep cleansing shower when the water ran ice cold, causing her to shriek suddenly and hop out as quickly as she could. “Boys!” She shouted, for whichever one was around. “Who’s fucking with the pipes?”

“See you there.”
