You can’t hate the person that got you here today. I’ll standby that pretty strongly, because no matter how you twist it whether you are in the shittiest spot you’ve ever been or the best spot you’ve ever been, that person was just trying to protect you even if they did it very badly. I don’t think it’s helpful to sit around and hate the person that you were, because at one point that was you as a whole, until you evolved to who you are now and that person trusted you to grow on beyond them, that version of you was building the bridge for who you are now and they deserve some grace. Even if it wasn’t pretty. Because in the next year or two years or five years or 10 years, are you going to hate the person who read this and was simply doing the best they could with what they knew then? Or are you going to keep repeating the cycle of only offering compassion to your past self once they’re no longer the version currently struggling?
