Melanie goes down to one knee, holdng up the box containing Málidagdila. "I, Melanie Vera, hereby pass the wardenship over Málidagdila to you, Countess Linkle of Hyrule. Forged in the dark flames of Ghâshbúrz, this cursed weapon loves not the purifying light. Strong is its curse, yet it fears those who fear it not. In our world, it comes from "malus" which means "bad" and "dictio" which means "speech"

In Melanie's world, it comes from "Málidagdila," which in turn comes from "má" or "hand" and "dagd" which means "to break." Of course, there are some modifiers for each word, where "máli" is one of the plural versions of "má," and "dagdila" is a noun form of "dagd."

"The program you implanted into my brain no longer answers to you. It answers to me. And I say..."

"I was recently shown the files pertaining to my birth. Or rather, my creation." The pain and rage in that last word made her voice almost that of a monster. The spike of revulsion and anguish was a dissonant chord in a set of strings that should never be plucked.

Melanie raises one finger. "Expendable tools are meant to be used only once. For example, arrows or bombs. They are not considered to have souls."

She raises a second finger. "Dependable tools are meant to be used for generations to come. They are considered to have souls. As such, these are repaired when damaged and made whole when broken. When the repair of our tools or weapons is no longer possible, we treat them with the reverence of a human being that has perished. The purposeful breaking of a weapon or tool is only acceptable in wartime, and only to the enemy's weapons and tools of war. Captured weapons and tools are hostages almost as valuable as the people who use them."

"Assassination is a good job. It is challenging work, outdoors, and I guarantee that you shall not go hungry."
