I keep most of the laminates from shows I play...hang em up on a hook in my studio. Just happened to look over at them & this one was staring right back at me..... A few years back, Prince was playing a string of shows at the O2 in London. I flew over to play for @common to open for him one weekend. We played our set, then hung out in front of the stage, watching the master at work. Halfway thru the show, he invites a few people on stage to dance. My girls Shelby, Nandy & Maya who sang/danced for Prince immediately grabbed me/pulled me onstage...I'm 2-stepping with them, 20,000 people out there laughing at this mini party onstage...but, I didn't realize that the 20,000 people were laughing at me!...The girls had methodically danced me over to where Prince was standing...and I didn't realize that he was absolutely clowning me on the mic!..."Who is this guy you're bringing over here....look at this dude....Is this your uncle" & a buncha other stuff I couldn't hear, but the crowd was cracking up....I look back & the band is cracking up...next thing I know, I'm standing right next to Prince with a mic stand in front of my face...oh boy, I understand now: I'm the poor shmuck that has to embarrass himself onstage tryna sing with Prince....there's a teleprompter with the lyrics for "Play That Funky Music" on there....he looks over, "cmon now, let's see what u got" (or something)...but, I back away from the mic...I just couldn't stop laughing...was too funny a moment but I'm also a tad bit shook: I'M ONSTAGE NEXT TO PRINCE & HE'S ROASTING ME!!...He must have realized that I wasn't gonna sing anything, so he calls Com onstage, who proceeded to "freestyle"....more comedy:):) (sorry Rash) ...man, there was a lotta jokes that night.. Oh, then we got to jam with Prince at the afterparty...!!! FTW!!! #RIP to one of the greatest ever....
