it reminded me so much of the most horrible euthanasia we ever did-- a family had this middle aged dog they all adored. she was sweet, cheerful, let the young kids climb all over her. one day out of nowhere, seemingly with no provocation according to them, bit their 7 y old on the groin aggressively and had to be physically forced by the child's father to let go of him. the kid had to go to the hospital and everything. and the dog came into our office super bubbly and outgoing, totally confused about why her family was leaving her, why her people weren't petting her anymore. they dropped her off and we fed her half a box of doughnuts before sedating and euthanizing her, she was too fidgety for us to even get a catheter in, wagging her tail the whole time. and watching that movie brought the tragedy of that situation back in full emotional force instantly. just devastating. i've always been deeply impacted by the idea of finding what love is conditioned on in a way you can't take back. what the limbo between the tragic mistake and the permanent consequences of your actions feels like
