"On February 23, 1945, the US flag was raised on Mount Suribachi. Here's one Battleship Texas crew member's account of what he saw that day.

'It was a moment of triumph when you saw the flag go up. Especially seeing at close hand all of the combat. I say close hand, meaning half to three quarters of a mile away. But with the big binoculars we had we could see what was going on. The people in the battle situation couldn't see. We were sitting back with a panoramic view of the mountain and the troops going up the mountain and trying to get up to the top. It was a very heart-warming situation to see the flag come up.' -Enever Limerick"
