😞 Nunca creí que llegaría este día. Los años pasaron, dejamos de ser niños, llegaron los nietos y los bisnietos, falleció mi Abuela y casi todas mis tías… pero mi Tía Tita apenas comenzaba a vivir. Being 22 never looked this good. At least not to me. My life was already a mess of confusion and the consequences of second thoughts, while for you, it’s all gold. I see you evolve and all I can think of is that if I had a second chance, I’d follow your ever move. What’s interesting is that it hasn’t been easier for you. In a world full of instant gratification and distractions, you’ve conquered the ability to keep your eye on the prize, even if following the path many today deem unpopular. I’m sure you’re still not close to where you want to be, but just remember how long it took many of us to be where you are, or the fact that some of us are still trying. From Alcoholic to Marathoner. Who would’ve thought 🤷🏻‍♂️? I’m gonna call Big Sur “The Sum of ALL Fears.” Mountains that will make hills look fun. Winds that bring “the wall” to you. Weather that first makes you want to remove layers, only to regret it later, and then back again. This was therapy for me. Once you start, there’s no way out. You’re forced to confront your fears. You are forced to defeat the you that was. You’re forced to not be the same once you realize you actually can pull it off. You realize your enemy was always you. Your paradigms, your perceptions, your cynicism. I was reminded that I’m not my habits. That I can beat them. A marathon doesn’t allow you to cheat. You have to put in the work. It’s pointless to spend your life trying to baby yourself if the route won’t. The journey I started on my birthday doesn’t end today. The first 20 weeks just helped me realize how much damage I had done to myself. If anything, it’s a lesson that you can’t just fix things later as easily as you ruined them. That said, like Kintsugi, this is one of those ways to make the broken pot stronger and more beautiful. Thank you @toprunperformance. I get it now. Yes this won’t be my last. Happy birthday dad! 65 never looked this good. Better known as “El Cacique” we have this running joke that he arrived here from Planet Krypton. I’ve seriously never met anyone else who’s more full of energy and determination. Born poor as a farmer, grew up doing the most odd jobs, to then have his own businesses, all while becoming a lawyer in his spare time. And yet, regardless of all his achievements, his favorite way to spend every morning is with a “machete” on an open field. It all sounds like if I was describing a group of people, but this is a typical 27-hour day in the life of our Super Man. The true embodiment of how much power the mind can have over the body. What can I say about 41? I’d call it a wake up call. We might have all the best excuses to be depressed after all we lost in 2020.. up until the moment your mind is writing checks your body can’t cash. As hard as it is to admit, I became an alcoholic during this pandemic, and it left me on a downward spiral that eventually led to burnout. And then what? What happens when you fall? When your body can no longer keep up with the bad habits you have all the excuses for? I hit a wall on the last week of November and decided I wasn’t gonna go out like that. Not when my Diego is 21 and shinning, when my Sofia is 15 and more talented than ever, and when my Andres is 12, and a genius. Nah.. I’m not my habits. I miss all the loved ones I lost every day, but sinking myself wasn’t gonna bring them back. So.. 42. It’s been a month yesterday since I don’t drink the way I did. Signed up for a marathon. Decided to love as a verb.. as something I do. Fact of the matter is that regardless of how we were shaped by those we left behind, it’s our duty to stay here and shape those we still have and love today. To all of you who’ve loved and supported me even in my worse.. Thank You! To those of you who didn’t know, let’s just say you shouldn’t believe everything you see on social media.
