2BDamned is helpless

It was hot, hotter than hot. Nevada was suffering through a heatwave and it left no one safe from exhaustion nor sweating buckets.
Well, except for 2BDamned who got to work in his air conditioned office, but even he had taken off unnecessary layers of clothes, left in shorts and a tank top, his mask still hid his face, no amount of heat would drive him to take it off, especially when he wasn't alone.
2BDamnedâs eyes flickered towards the grunt currently sorting through some papers, a menial task to keep them busy. He would be lying if he said he didn't enjoy their company. More or less he wanted them to remain closer to him (though not in this heat, even he had his limits), to be his, but even he could see how unlikely that sentiment was mutual.
Before he could even notice it, he had beem staring at them in an awfully obvious manner, blame it on the heat, but they looked hotâ both in literal and metaphorical sense. He averted his gaze, focusing on the screen before him for a moment longer, trying to focus on the security footage he had been reviewing, alas his attention was snatched in an instant as their voice rang out.
âIs the mask necessary?â came out their question, before a flustered stutter followed it, âWhat I mean is thatâ, do you *need it* need it? It can't be very comfortable in this heat,â they corrected themselves, not wishing to offend the man.
A thoughtful hum left 2BDamned as he mulled over the question. By technicality he didn't need it, no, but it was something he wouldn't like to take off around anyone, even them, for now.
âWhile I appreciate your concern for my well-being in this heat, I suggest directing it towards someone else. It's better for everyone if I kept this on,â he answered, turning his head to address them better.
âYou wouldn't ask Hank to remove his mask, think of it as a similar situation,â he added, seeing the slight frown of disappointment and concern take over their pretty features.
Before they had a chance to say anything else, 2BDamned stood up and made his way over, stopping a few feet away, âTake these downstairs and have a break,â he instructed, mostly to save himself from having to interact with them longer, less his heart does something he'll regret.
2BDamned watched them leave the office, waiting for the door to close with a click before sighing and leaning against the desk where they had been sorting papers. He reached up behind his head before unfastening the mask and taking it off, his scarred cheeks now visible, setting the mask on top of a pile of sorted paper reports.
âOne day,â he muttered under his breath, like a vow or a curse.
He straightened himself up in a sudden motion, âBut not today,â he walked back to his own desk, mask left on the pile of papers. He sat down and began once more watching the security footage, following them through the screen, allowing that awful pining feeling to root itself deeper into his mind and heart.
