✕✖ Always ⇆ Jaejoong + Seungjun
Bending over to grab his jacket, he retrieved his cigarettes and a lighter, quickly combining the two between his lips before the other could stop him.
After all, they weren’t in the car.
"I’m good for now. I’ll go to a bar if I want to get worse — but really it might be a good shove to get rid of the carpet. That’s really dated," he commented, flashing a relaxed sort of smirk as he fell back onto the end chair he had claimed as a coat rack when they first arrived.
Jaejoong did not have much to say -- he figured that he could tell Seungjun how being on the receiving end too gives him a reason to try and give him the advice he did, but he didn't. Thought it wouldn't make the situation any better, though he wasn't sure whether it would make it worse either.
Jaejoong looked at the bottle. Should've drank something bubbly, he thought, would make it easier to get drunk. He didn't have anything like that, however, and he wondered why. He wondered and questioned little things like that a lot -- especially as he was getting intoxicated, as expected. He couldn't help it, and sometimes he tried to convinve himself he enjoyed it. It's not doing any harm, Jaejoong told himself as he rested the back of his head against the wall.
"If you're going to make my apartment stink, then at least don't insult my... uh..." he looked for the right words, "my stylistic choices? Could I say that referring to a carpet?" Jaejoong laughed, drinking the last of alcohol in his hands. Why did he take an empty bottle with him?
"I'd ask you to open a window, but it's too big of a task for both of us right now, I think," he sighed, a smile still on his face from laughing.

“Ah, I see… And here I thought you were trying to put me in a compromising situation,” she teased, observing his moments: the way he looked down, the more prominent color in his face. “But since you’re single, I don’t mind it at all.” She laughed before biting her lip softly. She was smiling too much, more than she had in a while… it was a feeling she forgot, one that she missed dearly.
“Tulips? That’s sweet… your son sounds smart, maybe even more of a flirt that his father.” Aubrie tried her best to keep a cool composure but upon hearing that he wanted to buy her flowers made her stomach explode with butterflies, making her squirm out of happiness.
“Well, we do sell tulips here,” she smiled teasingly before giving a light shrug. “It’s all up to you Mr. Kim.”
It was nice to see that the young woman he was embarrassed to approach -- in case he was rejected -- didn't seem to want to reject him at all. Jaejoong was happy about this -- it meant that he must still be attractive enough to get a woman's attention and because a woman who gave him her number first didn't seem to be doing so out of pity. It was a nice feeling.
"Jimin is indeed very smart, and quite the charmer, you're right. Definitely in more luck with the ladies than I am," he nodded, now calmed down from all the blushing and intending to stay this way. He wasn't sure if he was embarrassed about Aubrie seeing him like that.
"No need to call me mister or Kim. Jaejoong is fine, Aubrie," he grinned at her, looking around the shop. Spotting the corner with the tulips, he started walking towards them, thinking about which colour looks the nicest while doing so. "I like the yellow and red ones. How about you? Which ones would you prefer?" he asked, facing her way, "I mean, if you don't like tulips I can get you something else you actually like. Maybe a cute bouquet too?"

"Drinking away the problems are for the scared, and I’ll admit I’m a bit scared right now, but don’t stay scared very long. Tapping his clavicles, he drew attention to the tattoo stretched across his papery skin, only partially visible beneath his V-neck. "It says, ‘Nothing’s more despicable than a life based on fear’ and I got it when I was seventeen, I don’t believe in running away, this is just taking the edge off. Now, I don’t know what happened to you, but I’ve never hit rock bottom and I’m never going to." The word slipped from his lips with the slightest hint of a sloppy tone, but the sharpness that had been there moments ago was gone. Seungjun knew himself well, and he knew he wasn’t sociable without a bit of an aid — in this case, alcohol.
"I'm not there yet. Thanks for thinking I'm that bad -- that I'm in that state -- to have hit the rock bottom," he laughed. He wasn't even sure if it was him or the alcohol laughing, or why. He was slowly starting to give in to the warmth, too. It didn't take him much, and in a way he was glad. It made him happy and sleepy, and those are the feelings to look forward to.
Jaejoong stood up carefully, grabbing the beer bottle he had rejected earlier. He put his free hand on Seungjun's shoulder. He held it there for a brief moment before deciding that patting him on the shoulder would probably work better to get the meaning of the gesture across -- he wanted to tell Seungjun to stay strong, but didn't want to say it in words, because he knew that he doesn't want to start everything all over again.
"I'm gonna sit on the sofa there. Don't want to drink much more, I'm busy tomorrow," he stated simply, still coherently, and did exactly that, "You do whatever you want, just don't throw up on the carpet or anything like that."

Tulips are for Beauty [Jaejoong and Aubrie]
(...)
“Your son? Aigoo how cute, I’m sure she’ll love a letter from him. And if not, I’m sure your wife can look over your words. Women know what other women like to hear.” She smiled again, nodding reassuringly. She quickly pulled out a business card, writing her name clearly on the back. She did this often to get a guy’s number, usually with one or two things in mind, however this was different. Holding herself back, she realized it was inappropriate for a married man, no matter what her first thoughts of him were. Still, there was a small flint of hope in the back of her head.
“When do you want the flowers for? I can get them done before tonight if you want them by then. And if you have any questions about them here is my name and number. I’ll personally make your bouquet for you, so you don’t have to worry about the possibilities of anyone messing them up. I’ll make sure your mother will be wowed by them!” her laugh was small but genuine as she held out the card for him.
Aubrie's reaction was much more pleasant than he had imagined. He could still tell that he was surprised -- he'd be surprised too -- but she didn't seem to be disappointed. It was nice to know that. Jaejoong took her card and without even looking at it, he took his wallet out of the pocket and put her card there safely. He blushed slightly, and took his own card.
"I-- I mean," he chuckled, now looking Aubrie in the eyes, "I was thinking about giving you my own card later. So I guess you can have it now. It's got my number on it, obviously. So you can call me when the order's done. I would really love it if it was done at about five thirty today." He handed her the card; it was the one he gave his clients and in other work situations.

"Oh!" he realised during the slight awkward silence, "I-- Don't get me wrong... I am trying to flirt or whatever I'm doing, I don't know," he grinned, "I mean, I'm doing this all because I am not married. I have a son, I see him this afternoon. But I'm not married, I'm totally single. I wouldn't be doing this if I weren't. I'm sorry if I made this confusing I... Sorry," he apologised, chuckling, looking down at his wallet, pretending to look for something in it. He was more embarrassed and red in the cheeks than he had intended to be, but he guessed that is what happens when you take a break from talking to women.
"I was actually even... like, hoping to be able to buy you some tulips, as my son himself had told me that those are the flowers you give a girl you like. But I'm not sure how to go about that now."

"This isn’t a testament of my future, it’s one night of ignoring calls and cells and all that shit. I know it’s your job, but I’m not a patient," he added, in attempt to provide some amount of solace to the down-trodden man. After all, he was stuck here, at least for a while, he’d rather avoid the conversation becoming unnecessarily emotional.
Jaejoong downed the glass he had filled beforehand and simply stared into the thin air before him totally empty minded, not a single thought passing through his head. He was glad that was the case. He didn't intend this becoming an argument about emotions or morals, but he knew what he wanted to say and he wanted to get it out as early and as quickly as possible.
"I'm not trying to heal you, or treat you like a patient. If I had wanted that, I would've not gone out with you. I knew what you needed and here I am, offering you just that," he said, now sitting more properly, "All I wanted to get across through that, really, was that-- I just-- I don't want you solving every problem through a drink. I get it that there are days when it's okay to drink it all away, like today. But the chances are, you will start takin' every bit of bad news worse and worse and worse until you reach a rock bottom and can't crawl back out. And that's when everything's done. I don't want to see that, and I know that neither do you. I'm here for you -- whenever you need me -- but I can't sit there and watch you crossing the line."

Running his slender fingers through his hair, Seungjun had to subdue a cringe from the taste the word left in his mouth. He was the sort of man who was always in control of everything that came his way, but there was no taming his cells, despite the best doctors and best medicine it would seem — and it made him angry. Casting his angled gaze toward the elder, his body language dared him to argue. “I’m not looking for advice or consoling or even understanding, just a distraction. You don’t have to provide that if you don’t want, but I’d appreciate it.” Words finished, soon followed by eye contact, Seungjun downed a third shot, drinking faster than his body could register the alcohol in hopes it would hit him like a tidal wave in a few minutes.
Jaejoong was honestly sorry for saying those words, but he knew that he had to. They were who he was, and not saying them would've made him feel worse, though he realised Seungjun was feeling much, much worse. It was a bad habit -- pushing people -- but over the years that is what he has learned to do. Every adult was responsible for their actions, and he wanted people to only take the roads which were best-paved. In his opinion, anyway.
"I'm sorry Jun, but I had to. You have to learn to talk about things without alcohol acting as a mediator," he put the beer bottle to the side and his head on the surface of the bar table. The man watched his glass as he glugged the dark liquor into it, "You don't need to become that kind of person. Cos believe in me -- it's not fun. Not at all. Looking at your own child and thinking how much you want a drink instead is not something I wish for you. You may not have kids, but I'm sure you have other people you love," he said still staring at the glass. He didn't know whether he wanted to drink it or drown himself in it. Or at least drown his thoughts.
Tulips are for Beauty [Jaejoong and Aubrie]
Aubrie had a small glint in her eye as she watched the other move in front of her, catching the air around him. He was older than her, but not by much. He couldn’t have been older than thirty, if he had even hit that age yet. But no matter his age, he looked good to Aubrie and that was something she was sure of.
“Jaejoong, it’s nice to meet you too. I’m Aubrie,” she watched as he bowed, taking note of glance toward his watch. Busy man, eh? Taking the watering can from her hands to place it on the shelf behind her she turned to him as he began to talk again, blushing at his words. A small laugh escaped her lips. “You’re a charmer, I see.” Pulling out a notepad and pen she couldn’t help but smile as he described his situation.
“A mother deserves the best right? Hmm, if it’s her birthday she should get something a bit fancier than a regular bouquet… so she won’t think that you rushed it.” She signaled him to follow behind her as she moved toward the flower displays. “Do you know what kind of flowers she likes? Or a favorite color? I think this design would be nice enough to surprise her but it’s not too much on your pocket.” Aubrie’s turned serious as she began talking about different options she could give Jaejoong, wasting no time.
“Any woman would love this design and it’s pretty versatile. I can put in a custom card with a message from you in it. I’m sure she’ll love that.” She glanced up at him again as she pushed a lock of hair back, hoping that she didn’t lose him in her rambling.
Jaejoong was flattered at her words, but didn't let them distract him from his main task. Aubrie was taking it rather seriously too and it made it all so much easier. He honestly didn't know the type of flowers his mother likes and he had no idea about the price of a more sophisticated bouquet. All he knew is that he wanted something nice for his mother, and later maybe for Aubrie too.
"Well, I see that she usually has flowers like... uh... carnations I believe? The smaller carnations" -- he tried to remember their name, but couldn't -- "They stay kinda long, and she usually gets really happy about them. So I guess... I guess I will take this design so long as you can promise me it will stay alive longer than tree days." Jaejoong nodded and smiled at Aubrie, thankful for her help. "And I would love a little card, though sadly I'm not that great when it comes to sweet words, but I imagine I can get my son to write in it with some glitter pens or something later."
That's it, he thought. There it goes. You mentioned Jimin. He sighed silently, remembering that most reject him the very second they learn about his little schoolboy. Jaejoong didn't mind though -- it made his choices so much easier.

Swiftly, his hands moved to combine three different liquors to make a single strong, but sweet shot. Downing it in one go, he answered the question as he took a seat at the bar. “Mm. If you mean why you specifically, you were close and I knew you’d take me to get drunk. If you’re looking for the reason why I want to get shit-faced, I’m afraid I don’t have enough alcohol in my system to tell you that, yet.”
Jaejoong didn't really plan on getting overly drunk, but was afraid he was moving in that direction anyway. He had things to do tomorrow, but he guessed they will either have to wait or will have to be half-assed by his hungover self. He figured it will be fine, for he didn't have to see his mother or son tomorrow. Jaejoong would feel the worst kind of guilt if he showed up after a night of drinking.
"I mean, if you don't tell me, I will fuckin find out myself," he stated, grabbing himself a bottle of beer this time. He took a few sips, taking his time. "I know it was a results sheet, and I know the type of disease you're fighting. I've had clients who've acted like you before. Exactly like you. Don't think I don't understand, Jun. Cos I do," he nodded and squeezed out a half smile, though he wondered if it's still called a smile if it's not happy.

✕✖ Always ⇆ Jaejoong + Seungjun

Seungjun didn’t always mean to come across as a smart-ass, but the replies came naturally from his lips. He supposed that was a form of defensive behavior, but he didn’t much care for analyzing himself. “I take it you’re still married to your work?” he asked, for the sake of being polite and shifting the center of the conversation. The less they focused on himself the easier it would be to ignore the papers burning a hole in his chest, and that’s precisely how he liked it.
Jaejoong laughed at Seungjun's question. "I am always around psychology and no one's slept with me for a long, long, long time. So I guess so, yeah. I'm married to my work. It's a sad, sad life," he grinned. He wasn't lying, but he wasn't too concerned about it either. He was fine about the situation, at least partially. That was enough.
The trip was finally over, after a short struggle to find a decent parking space in the lot outside the apartment complex. After that, getting home was a big blur in Jaejoong's memory, for the second they had unlocked the door on the fourth floor, the fridge was emptied of any alcoholic drink and the bar was opened to expose the harder drinks Seungjun had wanted.
"Any reason you chose me for drinking today?" Jaejoong asked the other while pouring him another drink.
✕✖ Always ⇆ Jaejoong + Seungjun
(...)
There it was. In truth, Seungjun wasn’t expecting Jaejoong to stay quiet about his sudden appearance. He was certain the man knew perfectly well what his business in the hospital would be, and he trusted that he could read his actions despite his best attempt at indifference. Eyes fixed out the window, he had to hand it to the elder for waiting until he was trapped between the conversation and a rolling landscape to attack with an intimidating tone of concern. “I’ve been fine, working a lot,” he replied, purposefully skirting around the first question. “And today I feel like getting drunk. And you?”
"Same here, yeah. Been working a lot too. Tired as hell," he sighed, thinking about the hard day. He wondered what else there is to ask or to say and he couldn't think of much. He turned on the radio, which seemed to be playing a decent song. If not, he thought it will be something to talk about. The drive was no longer than 15 minutes in total, but time was ticking really slowly in this car drive.
"What about seeing people then? Anyone new you've met recently? Maybe you're even going out with a new girl, huh?" he grinned, "or boys, I don't know what you prefer recently. Or have they all ran away from the luggage set under your eyes?" Jaejoong tried to joke. It wasn't probably very successful, because he honestly wasn't in the mood to joke, even though he did try to change it.
Jaejoong's coat was suddenly feeling uncomfortable and the car felt stuffy; hoped Seungjun wouldn't mind if he opened the window. The car drive will soon be over, and he couldn't be happier. Talking with a glass in his hand was easier.

“Hello, customer…” her voice trailed off as she caught glimpse of the man that had just walked in, blush creeping slowly up her pale cheeks. He was handsome, very handsome and just the look of him alone made Aubrie want to go into a fit of giggles. Gaining back her composure only after a few seconds, she bowed to the older man as she smiled brightly at him.
Ogle? Aubrie smiled again as she quickly stood up to greet him properly, shaking her head. “No need to apologize, I don’t mind.” She quickly looked him over, wondering what a man like him was doing in a store like this. He was too tall and too good-looking to come here; which always made Aubrie wonder if there were any good looking guys in Seoul. Well she finally had her answer.
“Is there anything I can help you with, sir?” she asked brightly with a smile.
Jaejoong felt almost uncomfortable for being charmed by and for looking at a girl probably almost a decade younger than him. And he felt old -- he really did. And he was kind of old. He just hoped he didn't look too bad. Hoped he still had it, somewhere.
"There's no need to call me sir, firstly," he grinned, "my name's Jaejoong, it's nice to meet you. No need to bow either, but..." he bowed at her too, looking at his watch once standing up straight again. As much as he wish he would, he didn't actually have that much time to spend here. He had to get to work at some point.
"I am here because... Well, if I knew that such a stunning lady worked here, I would've come to see you," Jaejoong nodded and started to look around, trying to imagine what kind of flowers his mother would enjoy, "But today I am here because it is my mother's birthday tomorrow, and I have no idea what to get her. She kind of frowns at me when she sees that I just bought something in a rush. So I thought she deserves more, and that way I can get out of her being bitter at me the whole day," he chuckled, "Do you have any ideas what kind of a... what kind of bouquet would be appropriate? I trust your taste."

“We’ll take your car. I have a guy to take mine home,” he answered. After all, he didn’t have the privilege of employee parking, and his had been toted off by some valet to a parking ramp that would take an obnoxious amount of time to retrieve. Slipping his phone from his pocket he quickly sent a text to arrange just that, delegating the task to a debtor who would be relieved to get out of his sights so easily. Following the elder toward the car, he gave him a warning look.
“You better not drive like a pussy, either.”
And he cracked a much needed smirk.
"No need to call me a pussy for being a cautious driver," Jaejoong emphasised as he was unlocking the car door, "and anyway, there's nothing wrong with being a pussy. I am old, my tattoos are fading, my bones not nearly as strong as they were ten years ago," he laughed, "You smoke in my car, and I will literally set you on fire," he warned the other as he got into the car and proceeded to put his seatbelt on extremely slowly, just to annoy Seungjun.
Waiting for Seungjun to finish his cigarette, Jaejoong was thinking about how glad he is that today wasn't a hot day. He hated coming back to a hot car. He preferred cold over warmth -- he always says that you can put on an extra layer of clothing or warm up, and you can't escape warmth. And he was probably right. He figured it's the same with emotions -- if you are cold, you can always pretend to be warm. But you can't really hide warmth, it will seep through. He knew that he pretended to be colder than he is, and sometimes wondered whether people can see through him.
From the car, he kept on glancing at Seungjun still standing outside it. He was never the young man with rose red cheeks or great complexion, but today, even when calmed down, he still looked simply... unwell. Jaejoong, again, wondered whether he should ask him about the results or not. He feared the worst, and knew that even if he knew what's going on he couldn't make it better. Jaejoong was starting to realise that oblivion was his escape from having to feel bad for other people; from caring for them a little too much; from getting a little too close to them; from hurting them with his maladaptive ways.
"So... how are you feeling today? How have you been doing recently, then?" he asked hesitantly as they were finally moving.

Oh, doctor. - Jaejoong & Olivier
Olivier was one to never do anything he wouldn’t like, so he attempted not to judge by one thing. But as he noticed how the world worked, he found himself giving them a bit of the taste of their own medicine. It sounded childish, but it was how he was working at the moment until he finds the need to change some things up. He felt his eyes a bit heavy, rubbing at one of them so he can wake himself up a bit.
"Not little things. I’m sometimes a forgetful person either way, so it’s fine. Hm… how small is your limit, doc?" He asked, giving a small smile and let out a small chuckle. His eyes looking over at the small booklet and then at the other man.
"Well, if someone made a very ignorant comment, I wouldn't really like it. I probably wouldn't let it pass, because I know I don't want to associate with those people. But I mean, if it's just a simple mistake, I'd try to first get to know the person. Wouldn't judge instantly," he smiled.
"Uh, yeah, anyway," Jaejoong changed the subject. He took the little booklet -- it read Patient Diary on the cover -- and handed it over to Olivier, "If you open it, inside you'll see it asking you to tell what the event was, what you thought before it, and what you thought after it. Then what you found out. So, if you were about to go to a huge party, where you have to meet people. You may have worries about what is going to happen - like embarrassing yourself while introducing yourself to somebody. Then, write down what actually happened. You should find out that your original worries weren't necessarily even close to being correct. I think it would help you."
