Race Malaysia
 OOC:// Malaysia, Sunday
BIC://
Begin racing they said. Sun, sea and lots of warmth they said. Alice thought rather harshly as she stepped out of the motorhome, blue and white umbrella held aloft so as to keep herself dry. If I wanted rain, Iâd have stayed at home. Then again, anyone who knew anything about Malaysia knew it rained a lot. And this weekend was no different. Thankfully, it wasnât too much of a walk between her motor home and the garage, which she ducked into just moments before any members of the press got the chance to accost her. She wouldnât talk to them right now. She was in her zone, so to speak.
Andy gave her a quick nod as she walked in, doing up the front of her overalls and sliding on her gloves. âRighâ kiddoâ he said brightly in his Geordie accent, âSecond race. Youâre gonna do us proud.â Alice could only manage a small smile and a slight shrug. Alice slipped into the car. Sheâd drive around to the grid and then she would deal with the press if they approached her. She didnât know whether she would or not, but she would be prepared for the standard âlast week is historyâ line, and of course the inevitable âthe car is good, Iâm looking to pushâ - which was true, of course. Alice might have been a rookie, but even now she was looking to win races.
As she made her way to the grid, she considered all that she could do with her car.I can push today. She thought, knowing that if Andy could hear her heâd probably tell her not to give it too much. Alice rolled her eyes. Andy would tell her not to breathe if he thought it would get her hurt. Yeah, they had history. Sheâd been like a sister to him apparently, and Alice hadnât wanted anyone else to be her race engineer. She trusted him with her life - and she thought sheâd made the right choice. When she struggled he was there. And now, when she was having the time of her life, he was sharing that. âAll systems feel good Andy, they lookinâ good back there?â She asked as she slowed to go around the hairpin. âSure are. Give it all you got today, okay?â Andy responded. âBe with you on the grid.â
Andy was there when she pulled into her grid slot and clambered out of her car, removing the helmet from her head. Now for the pre-race briefing. Alice thought to herself, as she popped herself beneath the umbrella, huddling close to Andy as he slung his arm around her shoulder, holding some sheets of paper in his hand. She wasnât paying too much attention though - he had told her this at least three times already this weekend. The klaxon sounded, letting them know that it was time to get ready for the formation lap.
A quick hug, and Alice was all set, as she slid into her car again. And round and round we go again. he thought wryly, as she followed the safety car back around to the grid. âTyre and engine temperatures are good. Brakes a bit cold.âShe heard Andy over the radio. Thatâs cool, I can deal with that. he figured, braking hard into the final few corners, and finally pulling into the grid slot. Suddenly, all became still, the only signs of motion was the revving of engines. And then one light.
Two.
Three.
Four.
Five.
Off.
The roar was spectacular, and in a cloud of tyre smoke, Alice left her grid slot, storming towards the first corner.
