A few years ago, I decided to look into VMware Certification to make my career grow faster. I asked around and my friends in IT and HR both told me that certifications were the ideal way to make my resume more impressive. These certifications are what have helped me grow and been responsible for my position as the virtualization and cloud specialist of my company. Choosing the right VMware Certification  

Almost all the Fortune 100 companies are running VMware virtualization technologies today. There is a wide range of certifications available each of which could open strategic doors for your future.

My journey started with the basics – I became a VMware Certified Associate (VCA) in Data Center Virtualization. I clarified my concepts on networks, servers, desktop virtualization and storage while also learning how to design, install and manage VMware vSphere environments. The certification not only improved my resume but also brought with it immense mental satisfaction and a desire to learn more.

I decided that my ultimate goal was to be certified at the Design expert Level. But, before I could do that, I wanted to strengthen my foundation. So, I decided to also study the VMware NSX environment and get Associate level certified. I found the VNSXDv6.2 course helpful for this certification.

Next, I moved on to the Professional Level certification intended for Administrators and Engineers. This certification strengthened my ability to install, configure and administer VMware NSX virtual networking implementations. By now, my salary had also seen a significant increase.

The next step in my certification journey was the Advanced Professional Level. There are 7 VMware VCAP certifications at this level for IT professionals like me who design and build VMware solutions. The VMware Certified Advanced Professional 6 – Network Virtualization (VCAP6-NV) was most relevant to me as I was planning to pursue Network Virtualization.

With three levels of certification completed, I was finally eligible for the Design Expert Level – to become a VMware Certified Design Expert (VCDX). This certification would later propel my career as an architect forward by leaps and bounds.

Getting certified at this level is not like the other levels. To earn my VCDX, I needed to submit a production-ready VMware Solution and defend it before a panel of three certified design experts. There is no formal examination to clear this certification level. The expert level certification was important as it would validate my expertise in VMware vSphere.

Salary Expectations With Vmware Certification  

Even with just the first level of certification, VMware certified professionals can command a much higher salary than other IT professionals. As of late 2019, VMware VCAP certified individuals in Data Center Virtualization earned an average of 7,310,352 INR per year. Individuals with Design Expert level certification earned upwards of 11,070,000 INR per year.

However, these average salaries vary according to the field of certification too. A VMware VCAP certified individual in Desktop Virtualization can command a salary of approximately 7,000,000 per annum. The good news is that certification courses and examinations cost a mere fraction of the salary they make you eligible for.

Courses in VMware vCenter and other aspects of VMware are a critical step towards preparing for the certification exam. · Familiarize yourself with all VMware products: VMware certifications are designed along 4 career paths - Data Center Virtualization, Network Virtualization Certifications, Cloud Management and Automation and Desktop and Mobility. Irrespective of your career path, familiarize yourself with all VMware products. You should be able to identify each product and its purpose.

· Get hands-on experience: You can complete VMware certification as a graduate straight out of college or an experienced professional. Either way, you need to find a way to get hands-on experience before sitting for the exam. If you don’t have access to a working environment, consider creating your own personal lab. This makes you comfortable implementing and utilizing all the different features of the vSphere.

·  Take practice exams: Getting certified at all levels except the Design Expert level involves passing an examination. Hence, it is best to take practice mock exams before the actual test. These tests are typically structured as multiple-choice questions. Be sure to read the questions carefully- some questions may mention that there are three right answers to be selected.

The certification exams for the Azure Administrator path can be taken, in addition to the Azure Developer and Azure Solutions Architect certification exams being released in beta. Over the next few months, the remaining three paths (DevOps Engineer, Microsoft 365 Modern Desktop Administrator, and Enterprise Administrator) will be launched.

1.      Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert

The certification path for this course is comprised of passing the following two certification exams:

AZ-300: Microsoft Azure Architect Technologies Exam

AZ-301: Microsoft Azure Architect Design Exam

Once passing both of these 2 Azure Architecture focused certification exams, then you will earn the Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert

2.      Microsoft Certified: Azure Developer Associate

AZ-203 Developing Solutions for Microsoft Azure exam was initially taken out as a replacement for the AZ-200 + AZ-201 or AZ-203 exams for earning the Microsoft Certified: Azure Developer Associate certification. This was a move to simplify the process of obtaining these certifications based on feedback from those who have taken the exams while they were in a "Beta" state. Thanks to those early certification achievers, we all now have a simplified process to follow.

The certification path is comprised of clearing the following two certification exams:

AZ-200: Microsoft Azure Developer Core Solutions Exam

AZ-201: Microsoft Azure Developer Advanced Solutions Exam

Once you clear both of these 2 Azure Developer focused certification exams, then you will earn the Microsoft Certified: Azure Developer Associate certification.

3.      Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate

Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate certification path is composed of passing the following two certification exams:

AZ-100: Microsoft Azure Infrastructure and Deployment Exam

 AZ-101: Microsoft Azure Integration and Security Exam

Once passing both of these 2 Azure Administrator / Infrastructure focused certification exams, then you will receive the Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate certification. 

4.      Microsoft Certified: Azure DevOps Engineer Expert

The certification exams for the Microsoft Certified: Azure DevOps Engineer Expert have not been released yet. However, details have been released that point to it being a more valuable certification for anyone who has achieved either the Azure Administrator or Azure Developer certifications. 

5.      Microsoft 365 Certified: Enterprise Administrator Expert

This Enterprise Administrator certification path is composed of clearing the following two certification exams:

MS-100: Microsoft 365 Identity and Services Exam

MS-101: Microsoft 365 Mobility and Security Exam

Once you clear these 2 Microsoft 365 focused certification exams, then you will earn the Microsoft 365 Certified: Enterprise Administrator Expert certification.
