“Hey Colt, you working on something right now?” Russell asked into his cell phone.

“No, actually I just wrapped up a job. Why?” Colter asked leaning toward the speaker phone in his truck.

“How would you feel about a little vacation to Hawaii?”

“Why, what's in Hawaii?”

“Why does something have to be in Hawaii? What, I can't just wanna take a vacation with my little brother?”

“No, Russ, this is you, so of course I'm gonna assume there's an ulterior motive.”

“Ulterior motive, huh? You wanna know what's in Hawaii? Gorgeous beaches and beautiful women.”

“So this is about a girl?”

“Well, kinda... I got a call from a buddy's wife. She hasn't heard from him in a few days and she's getting worried.”

“Is it just me, or do all your friends have a habit of disappearing?”

“Yeah, well, not everyone does a good job readjusting to civilian life… so you in?”

A few days later Colter and Russell were on a plane out of LAX destined for Honolulu. During the flight, Colter asked for info about Russell's ex-army friend Trey Cooper. Russ explained that they would meet up with Trey's wife Cassie to get all the details when they got to the island.

Shortly after landing, Colter rented a Toyota 4Runner. “You got Cassie's address?” he asked Russell.

“Yeah but let's grab some grub first.”

Colter gave his brother the ‘stay on mission’ stare.

“Come on, man. This is Hawaii, I'm dying to have some local cuisine.”

“Technically this is Oahu. Hawaii is the big island.”

Russell ignored his brother's nitpicking. “I can't think on an empty stomach, Colter.”

“Sure you can. I've seen it.”

“Yeah well, I don't want to. Come on, I'm hungry.”

After a quick bite and a drive out to a more rural part of the island, the boys arrived at the Cooper residence.

“When's the last time you spoke to Trey?” Colter questioned Cassie after brief introductions.

“Eight days ago. Trey called and said he was trying to help his brother Ryan.”

“Help him with what?” Russell asked.

“Ryan said his girlfriend was missing. Trey always thought she was kinda flighty and maybe she just took off, but Ryan seemed certain that something happened to her.” Cassie continued.

“Did Ryan file a missing persons report?” Colter asked.

“No, Ryan's not military like you guys. He has a record and doesn't trust the authorities. I went to HPD and filed a report for Trey a few days ago, but I haven't heard anything since.”

“Did Ryan live with his girlfriend?” Colter inquired.

“I'm not sure. Ryan didn't come around too often, and I only met Nikki once.”

“Alright we'll head over to Ryan's place and start there.” Russell advised.

A little boy ran into the room and hugged his mother's leg. “Are they gonna go get Daddy?” he asked.

“Yes baby, they're going to find Daddy.” She looked up at Russell and Colter hopefully.

“I'm going to find out what happened to your husband.” Colter confirmed.
