This blog is purely Brokeback Mt. stuff, but I figured it's best I make an introduction/about me cuz why not! :)

My fav actor *ever* is Jake Gyllenhaal, so I might post about him every once and a while if I feel so inclined, but it'll still be somewhat Brokeback related if I do.

Most likely I'm just gonna be posting shorter things or silliness and not really full-blown analyses or nothing, but I may get carried away every once and a while

I speak both english and german fluently and the teensiest bit of french, but will only be posting in english (most likely)

I think it’s easy to overlook some of the more subtle symbolism in the film, and I think the mutilated sheep early on in the film is one of these symbols

Prior to ennis‘ discovery of the sheep, he’s telling Jack about how he hasn’t yet had the opportunity to sin-

It’s important to point out how throughout the film, religion is something mostly unspoken but still present in ennis‘ life, which is an aspect where the two men differ

Ennis mentions to Jack later on how he’s sending off a prayer of thanks when the two are finally together again, which is brushed off by a joke ennis proceeds to make

It’s also worth pointing out that later on, his daughters want him to be back in time for a church event, implying that the family still goes to church now and then

All that’s to say that ennis being (methodist) christian finding a dead sheep the morning after he essentially becomes a sinner by cheating on alma (and sleeping w a man) is no coincidence since in Christianity, a sheep/lamb represents innocence and often purity, and is at the same time a sacrificial animal, which may die in place of a sinner, its blood paying for their sins, or at the very least covering for them

So one could argue both that the sheep is a materialization of ennis‘ lost inherent "innocence", or something more distinctly christian (as I mentioned, the idea of sheep/lambs as a tool in redemption/atonement)

Such a great experience!! Though it was sad to see how few people showed up, I think it was less than ten in the end

i believe alma jr knew, and the shot of her watching her dad get dragged off by cassie with that knowing, or even pitying expression on her face has me tearing up every time, as well as "maybe he's not the marrying kind". there's no doubt in my mind that she wasn't clueless about ennis' reality.

alma (jr) wanted her father to be happy, and she had to watch him put himself in another relationship that couldn't give him that happiness for so many reasons, was doomed from the start, and would ultimately end up only hurting the two

Thinking about how Brokeback Mt. was my *first* ever Jake Gyllenhaal film (it also happens to be my favourite (because it's ridiculously good), no suprise there though)...

I remember I first watched it while it was still on Netflix forever ago. I really enjoyed Jack Twist in particular (I also love Ennis, but I just have a soft spot in my heart for Jack because of his fate) cuz idk, he was silly (at times) and entertaining. I saw him in this particular scene (above) and thought: "dangg this dude is gorgeous af" and just had to know who he was, discovering so many other works he'd been in as a result, so many of which I've fallen in love with!! (I also realized I'd been somewhat aware of him already, since I'd heard of Jarhead and Donnie Darko, but his face and name were still extremely vague in my mind up until watching BbM)
