If you are a socially anxious person, you have to socialize. Your panic/anxiety attacks will only get worse and trigger more frequently if you constantly avoid contact with The Public. One of my Dr who pet peeves is when people talk about classic who like oh haha they had a shoestring budget and all the effects were tinfoil and bubblewrap, that's how doctor who is SUPPOSED to be, it doesn't need a budget! And it's like ok but classic who was made by professionals who worked very hard and often had good special effects ):<
People dunk on the tinfoil cybermen but like cmon these are complicated specially made costumes that were re-designed several times over the course of the 60s and they are good! Look at these guys they're great!
i hate the way fat antagonists have their weight moralized and used as a metaphor for greed and corruption and i hate the way it's overcorrected into fat people being "soft squishy friend-shaped cupcakes who look like they give incredible hugs" and i long for the day we have nuanced, interesting, and complicated fat characters and most of all i long for the day people are normal about fatness
really i think the most insidious part of white supremacy is the way it will convince white people everything is actually About Them. being called out isnβt about you. poc expressing frustration at your behaviour isnβt about you. itβs about how you are affecting others. step one is literally just de-centre yourself from the conversation. anyone whoβs not white has already had to learn this lesson the hard way and it gets tiring waiting for the rest of you to catch up
When does the anger stop? When did you learn to read how queer people have been treated without wanting revenge? I still want revenge
I don't know that it does. I wish I had a more comforting answer, but anything else would be a lie. There are genuinely parts of queer history that I avoid learning about because I know how much anger and grief it will awaken within me.
My editor has taken me aside before and told me that I have been writing too many articles with sad endings and I need to remind myself of the beauty in queer history. In that act of care, I think there is an answer for you. It isn't about stopping -- it's about balancing it.
I have these waves of hurt that hit me when I think of certain stories, and I believe a part of my role in the queer community is feeling those feelings fully. Wanting revenge, mourning, even hating, for the people who didn't have a chance to defend themselves, for the people who were so sure that they were wrong that they never even considered protecting themselves.
But there were also people who were happy. There were happy moments in the tragedy, and there is always love braided into these stories. I guess my advice is to let the anger unlock the other emotions. If you love them enough to be angry for the hurt they endured, you love them enough to be happy for their successes, to see the beauty mixed in with all the ugly.
it's like damn my bad redditors for thinking that since the show has 3 protagonists--two of which are a black man and a white woman in a big series like fallout--that they should all have as much beef in their writing as coopy sue so as to not feel like side characters in their own stories. but yeah you're so right cooper is mistah fallout what was i thinking

there's something about how people talk about ableism online that feels somewhat divorced from the reality that ableism is a form of violent oppression that gets disabled people killed, assaulted, and brutalised in real life. that it causes medical neglect, abuse, and structural inequality. that disabled people are, on the whole disenfranchised. and it's not like verbal interpersonal ableism "doesn't matter" in the face of the "real stuff" because all forms of ableism contribute towards dehumanising and isolating disabled people, which in turn makes them more vulnerable to the violence i mentioned. but it's like, do you guys remember the violence exists? that it's not just people being upset over words "for no reason"? there's a glaring reason right in front of us if you bother to look
"it would be so good if it was good" will haunt you but "it's extremely good, except for the one or two parts which are so bad it's genuinely kind of insulting" will straight up drive you insane
one has you making posts like "okay but if the author UNDERSTOOD the POLITICAL IMPLICATIONS of the story they were telling, and leaned into it, it would actually be a really interesting exploration of..."
the other has you pacing your bedroom at one in the morning going "why. why would you ever in a million years do it like that. genuinely what possible thought process was involved. was the writer possessed by a fucking ghost or something."
