âI am perfectly capable of kicking and punching someone in the face, the only reason I would call you is to watch me unleash a can of whoop-butt.âThanks.â
âYeah, me too kid.. whatever you say. Donât jinx yourself, alright? Youâre gonnaâ need more than just a can of whoop-butt if you want anyone to believe that. -- Itâs a beer, not a difficult secret to keep.â

The question caused a chill to run down Jaxonâs spine, the hairs on his arms standing on end. Even if Jack were seeking an answer to it, there was no real one that he could offer to the other. There were only snippets that Jaxon knew of the otherâs life, but not enough to truly gauge what the question meant to Jack. Teeth chewed at the inside of his cheek, pondering the question before he was following the other out the door and onto the street. âWell, Iâm along for wherever you want to go. We can go to another bar, to my place â or we can just keep walking until something comes up.â
âFeel like a fucking idiot, you know?â Maybe it was rhetorical, he didnât really expect any kind of response. How long had he wasted on something that would go nowhere for as long as Ophelia refused to see how wrong she was about everything? Amber liquid burnt his throat and he silently wished heâd grabbed something a little stronger. âAnother bar, might as well see what everyone else is up to, right? Canât remember the last time I was on this side of the bar ordering stupid fucking drinks.â
brookexmarshall:
âI donât hate you, youâre just â Iâm sorry, I know youâre only trying to help but how are you supposed to help someone that doesnât know how to help themselves? No, no calling them, youâre bad enough but I donât think I can stand another Marshall lecture, screw that.â
âDonât..-- donât apologize to me, Brooke. Youâve done more than enough for me and itâs about time I repayed you for it somehow. --- I donât... You just do, thatâs who we are. We help regardless of whether itâll do any good or not, and we keep helping until it does.. Thatâs who we are, you know that. Alright, I wonât.. Iâm closing up in about fifteen, think you can hang around a little longer?â
masondelgado:
âHey, secure is secure and itâs a good thing if you ask me. About that many. I spent the night on Liamâs couch the other day so I donât feel like intruding over and over. The other guys..well I donât know where the hell some of them are. I just figured youâd be the best option.â Though, he did feel like a bit of a burden. He just didnât want to be home, though. Not in that house. âWeâll let⌠not find out then. I doubt heâd do anything bad to that pretty face of yours anyway, so you have nothing to worry about.â He laughed, trying to find any excuse out there that what he did at Bloodhound was completely acceptable. âThat happens like⌠never. I can always find some chick to take back with me. Come on, look at me. Can you really pass all this up?â As he spoke, Mason shimmed around Jack for a momentâacting way too cocky than he deserved to be. âWell, if weâre being honest here, you donât want to. Iâm so much better the way I am, donât you think?â Of course, everyone knew that wasnât true. Sure, Mason knew how to have fun, but with the years going on and everyone around him actually growing up, he was going to have to learn to give up the reckless life eventually. âI wouldnât say spiteful, but definitely immature.â He tried to laugh off, but honestly, his words did hold some weight. âThanks, I appreciate it more than you realize.â
âYeah, youâre the only one thinking like that. On his couch? How are you even walking right now? That thing is uncomfortable as shit. Yeah, I havenât seen much of them either lately, heard Brax is out again though, so theyâre probably attached at the fucking hip somewhere.â That was kind of how it always was, Jack was just always there - never really heading in any direction at all. Just there. âI donât know about that, heâs been acting a little strange lately, and Iâve seen weirder things happen in that bar than Noah losing his shit so..--â Heâd never not find it amusing though, that Mason had gone to such lengths to get with some girl, then again -- Jack hadnât been all that different when heâd been in school. âDonât jinx yourself, alright? I donât know if I can help you with your ego if your luck runs out. I can definitely pass it up, you look like youâre eating too many burgers and not lifting enough anymore.â His brows knit together as his friend fucked around, never a dull moment. âI could think of a few improvements that could be made.. --- Donât sweat it. Take whatever you want from the fridge, donât touch the tequila in the cupboard, or the cafe patron, I will literally smother you in your sleep if you do.â

âI can handle myself, you know.âYou canât tell anyoneâŚâ
âYeah, well be sure to call me when youâre in the middle of being attacked, just to tell me you can handle it. -- Not a word, donât sweat it.â

âYou could and seeing as no one else seemâs up to the challenge, then I suppose it falls to me and I canât say I mind one bit. More like perfected myself and at one point in time my favorite color was blue and nowadays its green. Believe it or not, but there are some people whom know exactly who they are, what they enjoy and what they donât; do you know who you are, Jack?â she asked as her own curiosity was piqued at his remark. âWhat makes you say that, love? Its not a need of mine, more of a want. Gives me time to do my nails you see. Then tell me where you want to go and weâll be on our way.âÂ
âApologies that the burden has fallen to you, whether you mind or not, Iâm sure youâve got better things to do that make my life a little more exciting. I guess.. whatâs the point in polishing something thatâs already pristine..--- Greenâs a good color.â Her question stumped him a little and it was more than obvious on his face. âCanât say Iâve thought about any of that for a long time.  I just.. I meant that youâre well.-- you. I canât imagine you pay this much attention to all that many people, hence -- iâm the lucky one. Sounds hopeful but -- how does as far away from this place as your willing to let your driver take us?â

Jaxon hated saying it. He hated being that guy, the one that had to say it how it is, no matter how painful or horrible it might be perceived as. But Jack was his friend, and he would do or say anything that needed to be if that meant the other would start thinking about himself for a change. The silence lulled between them, only to be filled by the words that suddenly started falling from Jackâs lips, creating a sickening feeling in Jaxonâs stomach. He couldnât stop the image of his friend pleading with Ophelia to stay, only for her to cause the now present scar on his face. Ophelia was his friend, too; but God, did he hate her in that moment. His eyes shifted over the scar once more, never imaging a time where he could do something like that to someone he cared about. âSheâs alone, Jack.. Sheâs going to keep coming back so long as she knows that youâre going to be there waiting for her.â He hated to talk like this, about one friend to another; but if Jack needed to hear it, then he was going to say it. He watched him, waited for a moment when he needed to speak, when he needed to say what Jack needed to hear. Even as Jack repeated his words, he remained silent, allowing them to sink in and make the impression they needed to. When he suddenly took up one of the beers before heading for the door, Jaxon couldnât say he wasnât caught off guard. There was a moment of hesitation, where he stood wondering what he should do, but he knew going after his friend was the only option he had. Following out the door into the cold night, he easily caught up with Jack, falling into step beside him. âWhere are we going?â
It was how heâd always been, the lives of everyone else were a priority. It was why heâd left school, why he was stuck in a town like this, why heâd always suffered at the hands of his step father instead of letting it happen to his sister -- and now, he imagined it had a lot to do with Jackâs indecision to forget the pull Ophelia had on him. âAnd how long do you think Iâve been alone for?â He asked without really thinking about it. He had family in town; of whom he either couldnât look at, or who couldnât look at him, friends he had, but heâd never really managed to break out of the isolation that had come with being a product of abuse. It was nothing, a blank slate, as he stepped out into the street, it didnât matter where he went, âDoes it matter? Wherever, I donât care ---â

Normally, the scar on Jackâs face was not normally something that Jaxon focused on. Yes, he knew it was there and how it got there; but he didnât let that distract him from whatever foolish antics the pair were getting into. But now â now he could barely look at it, hating the fact that it was a reminder for Jack. âFine.â He stated calmly, finally lifting his gaze to the otherâs. âI would leave her. As hard as it might be, I would leave and I wouldnât look back. She knew what you are, she knew that hurting you was going to leave an impression; and she still did it anyway.â Unlike what was happening between Ophelia and Jack, Cassidy had apologized to him, tenfold for what had transpired that night. Had Ophelia done the same for Jack? âYes, you.â He stated calmly, knowing that everyone always thought differently than when they were told that. âItâs always going to be like that, until all those sheâs looking for are done away with. Itâs about her, Jack; sheâs only going to think about her until this is done. You need to start thinking about you, and about what you deserve.â
He hated hearing it. Couldnât stand it, even, his chest seemingly constricting to a certain tightness that was almost unbearable, Jack rubbing at the back of his neck as he reached for a towel. Busying himself over nothing, clean glasses, an already wiped over bench. Leaving her completely, not a break, not some time apart, really leaving her felt like a hot iron to his chest, air growing thicker as he stood there. Only finding some sense of how to breathe again a short moment later when Jaxon slowed to silence. âShe was going to leave, and I kept asking her to stay. I fought tooth and fucking nail for her to stay and she just.ââ Fists clenched and he forced out a humorless laugh, throwing the towel over his shoulder. âI figured she wanted to, you know? She kept coming back, that had to mean something, right?â Jack didnât really know why he was talking about this, he never had before â not with anyone. Jackâs personal life was his own, battered and bruises, his life was too broken to share with anyone. His hands enclosed around the edge of the bar as he lent into it, a rough sound, akin to a frustrated groan grew as he pushed himself back, fighting between a hollowness and anger. âSo never.. Sheâs never going to be done⌠Right.â He nodded slowly and for a long time, chewing at the inside of his cheek before he tossed the towel to the counter and gave a quick heads up to the other bartender, grabbing himself a beer for the road as he all but jumped the bar, heading for the door. âBetter start thinking about me thenâŚâ

April 16th, 2017. Sunday, sometime in the afternoon. Red Creek, Ontario.
Twelve hours after a nightmare shook him awake when it was still dark outside, Henryk felt like the Devil had chewed and spat him back onto the pavement. He was exhausted. Nothing a few shots of expresso and sheer willpower couldnât handle, of course. The vampire walked around the town with a plastic cup of steaming coffee in one hand and glaring at no one in particular. He was in the middle of crossing the street when a familiar face emerged from the crowd, rooting him in the spot with a surprised look on his face. Time froze for a moment and he drowned out the world, eyes glued to the ghost from his past. She shouldâve been dead. From somewhere far away, a yell cut through the silence and a firm hand grabbed his arm, pulling him back. A car drove right past him, tires screeching, honking angrily. The coffee splattered against his shirt, steaming hot, and he winced. âOh, kurwa!â What a day.
âHey.-- Hey!â He called out, all too aware that the other likely didnât hear him by the dazed look on his face. Youâre human. Youâre human. Stop doing stupid shit. Like running out in front of an oncoming car to drag the other clear out of the way. What sounded like a curse fell from the other and Jack couldnât stop an exasperated laugh from building in his throat. âReally? -- Youâre going to... you were almost cleaned up by that car. I think a shirt covered in coffee is the last thing you should be worried about.â
o-fee-lia:
Ophelia rolled her eyes. âYou know what I meant â Was it really a gas leak?â
He paused, not entirely sure he wanted to have a conversation with her âNo, Noahâs been...--- playing games. Place was coated in red when I got there this morning.â
andromeda-rhodes:
âHome sweet home. This place hasnât changed a bit.â
âNothing around here ever really changes, Andy. Figured youâd have worked that out by now.â

âHey, I have a lot of favors to ask, okay? And Iâm secure enough to admit that I really only have like three friends. Arenât you lucky that you just happen to be one of them? Letâs be real here, though. At least we had fun doing that. Donât say it like it was a bad thing.â The male cocked out a smile as he maneuvered through the room and hoped that Jack wouldnât say no. Granted, he could ask Liam too, but there was also a part of Mason that loved add more to Jackâs plate. âI wouldnât say necessity. And for all you know, I couldâve become a born again virgin over night. Maybe Iâve found the error in my ways and want to become a better person.â Which wasnât true, but it was amusing to entertain the idea. âOuch, glad to know the feeling isnât mutual. You know, I think Iâm going to have to find someone else to put as my favorite now. Just to be spiteful and immature. I do thank you for the spare bedroom, though. I only need a place for the weekend.â Hopefully.Â
âOh like I donât know it. Thatâs pretty damn secure if you ask me, is it really only three? And not one of the others have room for you?â He joked, a hint of humor sparking in brown hues. âOh luckiest guy in the world right now Iâm sure. Wasnât it a bad thing though? Wasnât it? Noah would probably have my head if he knew Iâd gone along with it.â Jack didnât pay much mind at all to Mason needing a place to stay, and in reality, it didnât bother him in the least. Being on his own wasnât something he was entirely used to just yet. âYou might not, but you havenât seen the look on your face when you canât take a girl home. Like hell you did. You, a better person? Iâll never live to see that day.â Mason Delgado didnât mature, Jack had already done enough of that for both of them. âLike you could find someone else to take on all the responsibility that comes with being your favorite, Mase. I think youâve got spiteful and immature pretty well down pact already, why bother trying any harder than you have to. Donât sweat it, itâs yours for as long as you need.â
bentley-campbell:
âI was curious, wanted to see what the fuss was all about. Iâm not impressed, by the way.âI told you, Iâm not drinking that.â
âYou picked the wrong night to come out to be impressed. --- Oh yeah, you are.â
