“Well — I wouldn’t exactly call myself a people person, but I do have friends. I just have this habit of putting myself first, you know? I hear it’s super healthy.”

“I put myself first for the last year. I’d like to enjoy some of my friends after all of that. If that’s odd then so be it.”

“I must say, I haven’t talked to the families personally,” she told the other honestly. “I would like to, but I think they’d prefer people they actually knew instead of some councilwoman they have never met before.”

“Well I haven’t really either since I just arrived back in town. Still I’d imagine if it were me it’d be nice to know anyone with some position of power in town cared. It’s just nice to know people are there if you need them.”

“I would say an increase of death is a pretty big change. There was also a curfew, loss of magic from some people, a summer that left people dying of heat strokes. I don’t know, Red Creek has changed if you ask me. Not nearly as homey as it used to be.”

“Well it’s not like this place ever lacked drama. Seems pretty familiar to me. Guess I didn’t know about a few of those things. Still has a lot of the same old faces though and I can’t complain about that.”

“Ugly mug? You mean, devilishly handsome. Is this where you confess your undying love for me? Hate to burst your bubble, but we won’t be riding off into the sunset, sweetheart.”

“Nope. I meant ugly. Alright woah stop with the daydreams. I very much still prefer girls. Hate to break that to you all over again.”

“Dammit and here I was going for flat out sexy. Darn you uncontrollable eyebrows of mine” Janey growled playfully with a wiggle of her brows in response to the wink that was thrown her way. With a smile though she nodded sobering up a bit in attitude swallowing hard and she ran a hand through her hair. She had her fair share of news as well but from what she knew and when she was with JD Janey didn’t want to endanger Andi. “From what I hear he’s good - oh well tough for you I’m not a people doctor but a doctor of archaeology. Still very, very sexy. Really? Well you know I’m here, what’s going on?”

“Honestly it’s the sexiest. I don’t need a people doctor for it to be sexy. Just being able to call you Doctor Whitmore is enough for me. I’m glad he’s good. I should check in with Fin. Might as well just spring the surprise on everyone. I’m back,” Andi answered before letting out a low sigh. “Are you sure you wanna dive into that darkness? It’s not a happy story. In fact it’s probably just as bad of an ending as you can get.”

                     “I’ll turn around if ye’wanna wipe your proud mother tears away, don’t want you getting embarrassed or nothin’. —-We gonna hug this thing out, or what?”

“You aren’t gonna wipe them away for me? Yeah, yeah. Come here you big lug.”

“Some people have to be.”

                “Feeling objectified here, Rhodes. Is it good to see me, or is it my ass you’ve come back into town for?”

“Aww poor thing. Why can’t it be a little bit of both? You can’t tell me you’ve suddenly forgotten your ego and gotten all humble about your good looks.”

Henryk frowned, parting his lips to speak, though his words failed him for a moment. “Seriously? Well — alright then.”

“You must not be much of a people person. Or you are severely lacking friends.”

“Hopefully so-I’m kinda gittin’ tired of th’ murders an’ stuff.”

“Rightfully so. Even if you don’t know the people it’s never good to watch people around you keep dying. In my opinion at least.”

“Less death? Seems like the town was a little better before then”

“A little, yes. At least from what I remember. I’m Andromeda by the way. Feel free to just call me Andi though.”

“I’ve just come from High Tea. I always take some sandwiches with me when I go. You put out a lovely service and then a bunch of forty year old women pretend to eat things and leave half the food untouched. It’s so depressing. I also have ham and Swiss if you’d prefer.”

“High tea? That sounds ridiculously fancy and exciting. That’s unfortunate they don’t fully appreciate it but sure I’ll try something new. Why not go for the cucumber. Thanks. Jeez and I don’t even think I introduced myself. I’m Andromeda by the way.”

“You thought you were the only person around here who remembered what their first kill was like?” Beck wasn’t entirely sure what sort of humanitarian act she had committed in a past life to deserve Andi Rhodes in this one, but sometimes she thanked gods that didn’t exist for it all the same. “You don’t need me, you never did. You’re doing just fine all on your own, remember that.”

“I thought I was changing too much too fast. I spent so much time saving lives and then I just took one,” she confided in answer still wishing she could tell her more. Andi wanted to tell her everything but she knew she couldn’t. Beck wouldn’t understand. Nobody would. “Fine. It still doesn’t hurt to have you around. I mean have you looked in any mirrors lately? All beat up and still the sexiest woman on this planet.”

“Did you leave because you killed somebody?” It was difficult for Beck to return to that place, that part of her mind she had buried and scrubbed clean of all empathy or remorse. Hunters had to be cold, any sense of regret became a death sentence far too quickly. “You don’t want to be me,” she corrected as her jaw set. “This is nothing to me, Andi. After everything I’ve seen and done, one more death doesn’t mean shit. If that bothers you or you can’t understand why I have to be like this, then what the fuck are you still doing here?”

“Mostly yes,” Andromeda admitted as she tried to calm the swell of emotions she felt once more. Almost immediately she turned back as she heard the correction. “No. That’s not it at all,” she objected quickly despite not knowing what else to say. “I care about you. You’re my best friend. That’s why I’m here. I don’t care what lifestyle you choose because I care about you above all. I missed you. I needed you.”

“It’s..” Words seemed harder to choke out as they slowly came back to her, Aurelia almost completely unaware of what she was saying in the first place. “It’s a ..– white, beat up piece of junk. Not something you can really misplace but I just..—- maybe I didn’t drive.” Brows furrowed as she thought on it, trying to pinpoint something in her head that could tip her off. “Are you..– you don’t have to, I can just call someone.”

As the confusion furthered Andromeda felt the urge to protect rising up in her once more and she held out her arm to the other woman. “Come on. It’s no big deal for me to drive you since I’m already here and if you need to find your car tomorrow we can do that too. I don’t have much going on seeing as I only just moved back to Red Creek.”

“If you don’t mind me assuming—you don’t seem too thrilled about that?”

With a tendency to sometimes wear her emotions on her face Andromeda was unable to keep the sad look from her eyes. She was tired of running from what had happened but telling a stranger didn’t seem like her best bet. “Let’s just say I left my heart here when I went away.”
