listen. There's a whole mentality shift that needs to happen culture wide here, from the schools to the public infrastructure to pet ownership to the justice system
The proper response to your dog doing a natural behavior you dislike (digging/barking/protecting etc) it to give them an appropriate time and place to engage in that behavior
The proper response to skateboarders damaging infrastructure is to build more and better skate parks, or build skate elements into the public infrastructure on purpose.
The proper response to homeless people sleeping on park benches is to build them houses.
you see how there's like, a commonality at play here?
The proper response to a disruption is to address the root of the disruption directly, not somehow attack the disruption itself -
you don't invent a muffler by swinging a bat at the engine noise, you don't relieve your hunger by punching yourself in the stomach, you don't resolve public unrest by sending armed men to control them and you don't prevent homeless people using bus shelters as a roof by removing the bus shelters.
a whole ass shift in a basic mindset, i'm tellin' you. We need it.
sorry I’ve been inactive for like 6 months y’all I had to lock in
just dumped a ton of poems on my other account that I wrote in the meantime though, enjoy
I am slowly growing bigger
Here is one that isn’t much
Waking and walking
Green to orange and a look
Not a glance or a gaze
This is one that knows it will never be bold
Shoes alike are drumming on bricks
Branches never dreamed to touch the sun
Pleading cupped hands want light
There is one like any other
Pressing into concrete
Growing on a traffic island
And it sways on all the stillest days
Welcome
matted and dead as the dressings underneath it
on blocky cuts of jarrah flesh
is woven spinifex that used to drift
such a reddening carpet dirt-caked
thick as fur
bristling with its faded wearing word
embraces its guest tightly
as if it might sink through
warmly in the stinking heat
the doormat greets the rat

The Way Train
there was a metro line once with tracks built faster than the train ran and a carriage full of people talking
people sitting and standing and clutching the handles and in the baggage compartment and spilling from the windows like a flutter of ticket stubs
a clutter of eyes sliding up and down the route map until they could not see so far
children leaping across junctions and clinging to the rooftop
suitcases on the glassiest wheels rolling up and down in waves
breezes and sparks and newspaper planes and deepest roots of rock
an early morning train commuters caught, their sleeves and sights
from paneless frames and doors, never the home stop
Hello… brother
the jig is up

opinion dump!
a lot of people who are fighting for climate change keep saying "we're setting the world on fire", like it's a forest and we're all standing around dropping cigarette butts, and I hate that allegory for so many reasons
because if we're being realistic here, climate change won't wipe out the human race, at least, not for a few lifetimes, and most people know that, so all the screams of doomsday aren't turning heads anymore
but the science seems to be saying that what it's really going to do is continually, gradually, impoverish and kill thousands of people every year, and slowly it'll turn from thousands to millions before we even realise it.
climate change isn’t killing rich people yet, and honestly, I don’t think it’ll ever kill anyone who couldn’t afford to pay their way through. this shit isn’t a movie and it’s never going to look like one.
oh and side note, if someone floats the idea of terraforming mars to “escape the planet” again I’m gonna start flipping tables, every scientist alive knows that’s bullshit
within our lifetime, to the first world, the apocalypse is just going to look like a freak storm and a news article about another flood in indonesia or a famine in central africa. to the people who are dying it's going to look like slowly cracking drywall and a cover letter for a third job.
the world isn't a forest fire that’s getting out of control - it's a slow-burning plastic fire in an oil drum at a homeless shelter.
it's a steady, growing flame that’s slowly, quietly poisoning the powerless, because the rich won’t stop feeding it to keep their hands warm.
i need to get punched in the nose right now and i also need a hot toasted banana muffin
this one's been in my drafts for ages but I couldn't find the right photo to post it with and I totally forgot about it
also PSA, I want to try writing for other people!
if you send me a story about you or someone you know through the submission button on my blog, I'll write you a poem (if you want it to be private then I won't even post it here, I'll just send it to you)
anyway this is one of my favourites
Little Dipper
winter is the sight of her by the lake in vivid darkness and the taste on skin of inky air that holds her as she glides her way to swim
it’s the way she climbs the crags that breaks the dullness of the twilight and in rushes like the reeds leaves colour burned into the ripples
in a rusty shade of orange like a second setting sun
and she breathes
and summer linen slides from shoulders to the rocks flutters free before she slips through bars of moon
but for a moment I can see the silhouette the diver cast in the river soaked with stars that rose to meet her
and for a wrenching little second she stays under by the creekbed
as my river siren holds
her fiery breath
and captures mine
until the surface and the silence break with bloodshot eyes, and laughter
and she’s standing on the rocks dressed in a grin
so bewitch me little dipper like an artist or an angler cast your shadows on the shallows
draw your line in

I don't do prayers but one can't hurt
hey there
behold your friend
below the dirt
hear one more clicker’s press
another casket laid
they’d like to say some words
and when he wakes again it’s dark
in someplace he has never been
where gone are all his hungry teeth
that cut him from his itching bones
I think he’ll find the peace he needed there
if life alive had failed to give him rest
but still for years his veiled picture hangs
and two days late his father found the tears
so I will make it warm, when he comes home.
Photo taken near Coonabarrabran NSW of mountains and my highly awesome mango ice cream bar
just reread the comic “The Boxer” by JH for the fourth time and it made me feel things I haven’t felt since the third
so yeah somehow this random korean sports webcomic from five years ago beats out all the classic literature I’ve read and incredible movies/shows I’ve seen to be my all-time favourite piece of fictional media
it almost reminds me of the alchemist by paulo coelho
this thing is fucking hilarious, genuinely terrifying, adorable, inspiring, and gut-wrenchingly tragic and it made me want to be a better person
I genuinely don’t know how else to describe this thing
like I’m not even doing it justice, you just have to read it
I’m so serious rn, it’s not even that long, just read it

hey y'all, very different post here from usual but I thought I'd put out a PSA: I just almost fell for a scam!
I followed a "vetting organisation" called @gazavetters on here a while ago so I could avoid accidentally donating to a scammer/bot instead of real people for when I next had spare money to give
a couple of days ago, I got a message from an account that seemed to be on their list of vetted campaigns, asking for donations
and look I just got paid and I've been getting more shifts lately so I could finally afford to give a little, but I thought to double-check one more time to make sure it was real
and I'm glad I did, because @gazavetters is actually a huge scam operation that runs hundreds of bots like the one that messaged me!
like wtfdym I've been following these guys for months now
but yeah preying on strangers' kindness and stealing money from famine relief efforts and actual victims of genocide is so, so absolutely fucking evil and I feel kind of sick just for coming that close to falling for it
anyway if y'all want to be sure you're helping, please donate to larger-scale relief organisations like Unicef, or to crowdfunding programs that have been approved by trustworthy vetters like Molly Shah (source: The Guardian), instead of people from fake vetting pages on tumblr
tldr: ffs please don't give those scammers any of your money, I almost did - and if you have the means to donate, please give what you can.
