The Equatics - Merry-Go-Round (1972)

According to the story, the Equatics were a Virginia high school soul band who won a Pepsi contest, and recorded an album. It pretty much disappeared shortly afterwards, until it was reissued in 2010 by Now-Again Records. This song is pretty cool, though it’s clearly borrowing from Thin Line Between Love and Hate. It’s a great story but I’m really not convinced it’s authentic - it just doesn’t sound right to my ears production-wise. Is this an elaborate hoax?
