But anyway if bp latched onto influencer culture bts latched onto social media 'activist' culture. Like whenever you asked people why they liked bts it was never about their art it was how their art related to some other ethical...thing. but that 'thing' kept changing as bts grew. Like when bts first debuted the only thing you ever heard was how miserable those guys had it so stanning them was 'about' supporting small creators. Then they got bigger and were profitable so then it became about supporting 'real artists' who made their own music, then people realized that OTHER groups did that too and suddenly supporting bts= supporting mental health because they marketed themselves as being 'pure' of the 'degrading Influences' of American (aka black) rap. And they rode that for YEARS like buying bts mental health merch in anyway connected to actually caring about mental health and it wasn't just a gimmick.....
Anyway then it was supporting bts to bring down the monopoly the big three have over kpop! Root for the underdog! And then when they got into the USA it was about fighting racism or whatever....like....the transitions between eras were always so smooth and coordinated and well timed. Like bts absolutely MASTERED selling a narrative to a crowd it is impressive.
