Oh Izzy, always. It’s my last year, don’t judge me.
Well, at least you have a few more months. I'll make sure to make them miserable for you so you're eager to leave.
The castle might be, but it’s spirit isn’t. It’s the belief that keeps it alive, you know.
That's one way of looking at it, I guess. Getting nostalgic already, Doe?
Well...
This place never gets old, that’s for sure.
I think the castle's pretty old, actually.
Bright Blue Eyes || Izzy and Otto
Otto cringed when she laughed. He felt just so lost. He just hated this. He felt like a first year and Izzy was a 7th year. And she was taunting him. He hated this. The boy frowned at his friend, his eyes losing their shine. He looked at her and ran his hand through his hair again.
"I just dont know how the soft spoken, careful boy I had met, is the same mean, nasty boy that you know…" He bit his lip. The boy wanted to shake his head and run to the boy, having all his fears put to rest. For Casper was just so sweet, and shy…
"He was just so sweet, so soft… so.. shy…" Otto shrugged his shoulders at his friend. "Just something about him… And his eyes, Izzy, his eyes… They were so perfect… They made him look like… I dunno… And when he got all flustered he would blush and it was so cute…"
She nodded, slowly, bottom lip jutting out a bit as she thought about it. Casper was smart, but not that kind of smart--not the sexual kind, not the kind to use his wiles to woo unsuspecting Hufflepuff boys. Sure, she'd still talk to him later about Otto to make sure he wasn't planning anything, but for now she'd trust Otto's judgment.
"Who knows," she said, giving Otto a grin to reassure him. "Maybe I judged him wrong. Or he was having a bad day the times I talked to him. Maybe he hates girls." She laughed at that last one. Hey, if he was a young kid struggling with his sexual preferences, maybe he really didn't.

Bright Blue Eyes || Izzy and Otto
Otto was just so lost. He felt like someone who swore they could swim, and as soon as they got into the water, began drowning. His eyes looking at Izzy, wishing she would help him, chuckle and say she was just kidding, dismiss his fears… He ran his hand through his hair, so confused.
"W-what?" Otto wanted to cry he was so confused. He was usually a very smart boy. And after a minute or two would be able to figure something very confusing out. He didnt like this state of drowning he was in. He looked at Izzy, his blue eyes fogged with confusion.
"He was just so sweet, and so cute…" The hufflepuff sighed in defeat. He wasnt going to take back anything he had said about the boy. Otto just felt so lost.
When she did turn around, to check that Otto was actually following (his voice sounded so far away and quiet, she wasn't sure if she'd just left him behind), she caught sight of the lost-puppy-dog look on his face and she actually did laugh this time.
A short, barking laugh, stifled when she clapped her hand over her mouth. "Sorry," she mumbled through her fingers. "Not funny. You just had a weird look on your face." Izzy slowed down, sighing a little to herself. "I dunno what to tell you, Toto. That's all I know about him."
She tilted her chin so she could see him better. "You really that confused? Jeez. Pull yourself together. You gonna tell me what he said to you, or just act like a rug has been pulled out from under your feet?"
Bright Blue Eyes || Izzy and Otto
Otto widened his eyes at Izzy’s words. Casper was so sweet to him. So loving. So… shy. How could the boy they were taking about be the same person? The Casper that his best friend was describing was so different than the sweet boy he had meet earlier. The Casper that Otto had met was just so different. HE could never see his Casper being snarky and a prat like Izzy said.
Otto just couldn’t make sense of the information that Izzy had told him. It just… didn’t make sense… Casper was so soft spoken. One part of the Hufflepuff wondered if they were the same Casper, and something happened to the Ravenclaw boy in order to change him from the boy Izzy spoke of to the boy he knew. The other part of Otto was convinced they were taking about different people.
“Izzy… he was so sweet to me. And he was so shy. He stumbled over his words. And was stuttering like someone who has social anxiety…” He tried to explain. Otto was just… so bloody confused. His head was hurting as he tried to make it make sense. His head was pounding and he didn’t regret his choice, but just had a problem with this information.
She wanted to laugh, she really did. Such incongruity in the stories, and confusion running rampant over Otto's face. But Izzy didn't want to hurt his feelings by laughing in his face.
Instead, she shrugged. "Just telling you what I know. Kid dated a Slytherin a while back, too." She started walking again, trying to avoid seeing the surprise on Otto's face--she was at least mostly sure that Casper hadn't mentioned that to Otto and it would be new information. She didn't want to see what his reaction would be.
"So you met a kid and he made such an impression on you that you asked him out immediately?"
Fashionably Late to the Winter Ball || Rodolphus/Izzy
Rod raised an eyebrow in surprise, turning to stare at the girl, chuckling to himself. “Darling, I’ve had the finest whiskey money can buy. I know my alcohols. This is common, poor people alcohol. I can barely stomach it, but there’s still alcohol in it. Trust me, I know my liquors and my whiskeys.” He poured himself another glass, raising his in a mock cheers to hers before downing it, hissing almost at the burn at the back of his throat.
He slumped back in his chair, growing more irritated by the second. This girl, whoever the hell she was, refused to leave him alone. What did he have to do, blatantly walk out and hope she didn’t follow? It was ridiculous, having a clingy girl talking to him the entire time. Couldn’t it have been Alecto or Andromeda or anyone else? He groaned, closing his eyes and pinching his nose, trying to drown out her voice.
"Obviously you aren’t then. What, have you not friends? Or did they all abandon you the minute they saw you in that ghastly outfit?" he bit out, turning his icy glare to her. "How do I get you to leave me alone? Hmm? Because obviously I don’t have the power to shake you for some reason. You’re worse than a flesh eating virus, overly chirpy, and annoying as all hell. So you’re a Hufflepuff, correct?"
Something about his inordinate irritation made Izzy gleeful. Surely he would strike an imposing figure had he been recognizable, but something about anonymity made him less than intimidating. It evened the playing field.
She grinned at him rakishly. "Why're you so angry?" she inquired. "Were you just waiting for someone to walk up to rage at, or is it me in particular?" Of course, she knew the answer to that. He would have been rude to anyone; she was just the lucky one who presented herself as a target.
Not that that was going to stop her. Izzy shrugged and hopped off the table, her hands disappearing into her pockets. One thing she loved about this outfit--the freedom of pants. She hated skirts. Too open and billowy and useless.
"You don't see me asking about your friends," she retorted. "You're much nosier than I thought you'd be. If my outfit's so ghastly, why are you wearing one so similar to it?"
Bright Blue Eyes || Izzy and Otto
Otto was just flabbergasted. He couldnt imagine Casper being mean to anyone. He was just so sad looking, with his big eyes and small frown on his face. He looked like he was the only survivor in a war, and Otto was his first human contact in years.
"of course I am not on something." Otto scoffed, furrowing his eyebrows at her. "Why would you ask such a silly question." He didnt even smoke, let alone take any other drugs. He used the excuse that he wanted to keep clean for Quidditch when someone offered him drugs or alcohol.
"It must be a different Casper Scott then. Because the one that I am talking about is very sweet. And would never be mean to someone…" Otto’s voice wavered. He didnt know the boy well, but what he had gathered, he was very nice, and very very shy.
Another shrewd look. She couldn't believe his naïveté. Otto didn't usually date people--she couldn't remember the name of his last relationship--so she figured he was pretty innocent about love. Not that she really knew much about it, but at least she'd been involved with enough people to know how these things went.
She slumped against the wall, still giving Otto her squinty-eyed look, steepling one leg against the stone wall behind her. "Ravenclaw. Fifth year, I think? Smart kid, looks underfed most of the time, cringes away from physical contact like he's afraid of being hit." Izzy nodded at the boy. He looked like he was following, at least.
"Maybe he was nice to you, but in my experience, he's not a nice person. Likes to snap at people who try to talk to him or even look at him wrong. Gets bullied a lot because he mouths off and acts condescending. Not a good move for a little kid like him."
Maybe, though, Casper was smart in a way most Ravenclaws weren't--maybe he had that cunning, manipulative intelligence and had, for some reason, set his sights on Otto.
A piece of gossip sprang to her mind, courtesy of Rita Skeeter. Casper's little relationship with Rosier, and how Rosier had apparently strung him along for months to do his homework and carry his books, and how easily he'd wrapped little Casper around his finger. Of course, he'd only started talking publicly about this relationship once the rumors about Casper actually dating Evan had started going around...Rita thought that Evan was trying to cover his tracks. As soon as the rumors started, according to Rita, Evan had dumped Casper without a word, and began bragging about how stupid the kid was.
Usually, Izzy didn't listen to anything Rita said; she let the girl gossip because Rita liked to talk and Izzy knew that letting Rita talk was one way to keep her from prying into Izzy's own secrets. But if Otto was going to get involved with Casper, suddenly the gossip mattered.
Bright Blue Eyes || Izzy and Otto
Otto’s chest immediately puffed out and he was quick to defend the boy who he had taken a fancy to. He felt personally offended, but he would have if someone had spoken negatively of anyone he was close with, his brother, Izzy, or Ted. He really cared for his friends, and did not like it when anyone would say bad things about them. He defended Casper quickly.
"He is not scrawny." He snapped, not meanly, just quick. As if he had the words forced from his mouth. "Casper is small and sweet. And when he blushes I just melt. He is so cute. And so nice…" Otto gushed a bit. He had no idea why the small boy had such an effect on him, but he did. Otto would never call it love, no sir. But he did call it fancying.
The boy seemed to just hit something within Otto that no one else really did. He couldnt really pinpoint it, but the Hufflepuff was interested in the Raven’s expressive eyes. Maybe it was his artist inside him. The artist that somehow thought that the small boy was just so beautiful. The strange hair style that would be so fun to paint. And how Otto wished he could stare into those eyes and get to sketch them till his hand fell off.
She gave him her shrewdest look, the one with her eyes scrunched up and narrow and her mouth thin and partially upturned in one corner. It was her piercing look and usually made people feel uncomfortable--or at least that's what they told her when she used it. "Sweet," she repeated dubiously. "Nice..." Trying hard to wrap her head around this revolutionary concept, she started to shake her head, the furrow in her brow above her raised eyebrows not lessening.
"You on something?" she queried, only half joking. Otto wasn't the addiction type, but maybe someone had slipped something in his drink. A love potion, perhaps. Maybe that would explain why her friend was so head-over-heels for a nondescript little squirt.
Izzy shook her head more decisively now, leaning back against the wall, arms hanging lax and barely even holding onto her books anymore. "This is ridiculous," she laughed. "He's been in my house for years. All he's ever done is snap at people and be as rude as possible. I've had more than one unpleasant encounter with him."
Suspicions were starting to creep into her mind.

Bright Blue Eyes || Izzy and Otto
Otto laughed easily and shook his head. “No. You know I am not into older men.” He winked at Izzy and chuckled again. The boy ran his hand through his long-ish hair and his bright blue eyes shined as he spoke to his friend. He was just so happy that it seemed to come off him in waves.
The boy was never shy about saying his opinion, it just was that he didnt really care for giving his thoughts out to other people. He prefered to keep to himself and just kept his head down. Otto knew that if he said something out of turn, he might get in trouble, and he didnt really like getting into fights.
He just kept smiling at the Ravenclaw girl and licked his lips. “His name is Casper Scott. And he is so sweet. He agreed to go to the dance with me.” He added, giving his news to his friend.
She held her books loosely against her body, not letting Otto's bouncing cheer slow her stride. Otto's happiness was infective, as usual, but Izzy wasn't one to be caught up in a loving whirl; she tended to be critical of romance and wary of the "swept off one's feet" or "love at first sight" clichés.
She expected to hear the name of some pretty student, someone funny or ambitious, likely to get Otto's attention. Otto's answer, though, stopped Izzy dead in her tracks.
She halted without warning, abruptly in the center of the hall, causing a mild backup of foot traffic behind her. "Casper Scott?" Izzy said incredulously, staring straight at Otto with consternation and something like mirth. "Ravenclaw kid? Scrawny little thing?" Maybe there were two Casper Scotts in the school, and she'd just met the least pleasant one.
For all of her knowledge--five or so years of knowledge, since Casper was Sorted into her house and she was forced to share a common room with him--the boy known as Casper Scott was a real ass. She couldn't remember ever hearing a nice word out of his mouth, even when he'd helped her with homework. He was smart, sure, but he was condescending and rude and often snapped at people for no reason.
Some, apparently, had managed to bring out a more friendly side to him, like how Mary MacDonald defended him and said he really was a sweet kid deep down. But Mary was capable of bringing out the nice attitudes in everyone, not to mention her penchant for defending people even when they didn't deserve it.
Izzy was skeptical. Perhaps more skeptical than she would have been had Otto named someone--anyone, really--else. How the hell was Otto smitten over a shit of a kid like Casper Scott?
Fashionably Late to the Winter Ball || Rodolphus/Izzy
Rodolphus did not care about how people looked at him or saw him tonight. Nobody had to know it was him, sitting in a corner, talking to some bird about alcohol and balls. All he had to do was tell his mother he showed up and he was clear. Now if only he could get away from this peppy little girl and go back to the dungeons…………
He sighed, turning irritated eyes over to his companion. “I believe in respecting the wishes of my parents, I was raised better than some common street dweller and aim to please my mother and father,” he bit out, placing his cup on the table with a bit of force. “What about you, come to irritate everyone you can this evening? Don’t you have friends to dance with or be annoying with somewhere else?” he questioned, raising an eyebrow at her.
He had no idea if his mates were even here. They had to be, but damned if he knew who they were. It was giving him a headache, trying to figure out who was who, the spell fogging his mind and irritating him even more. This was not his idea of fun, it never was, never in the past eighteen years of his life when he was dressed in suits and dragged to every pureblood and Ministry event in Britain. Sighing, he leaned back in his chair, crossing his ankles and arms and wanting to disappear into the cheap decorations, ignoring the pounding in his head.
Maybe if he wasn't so determined to shake her, she would have dismissed him as being boring and left him alone. But he was disgruntled and didn't want to talk to her, and that made her want to talk to him. Maybe the pretty-boy high-society types weren't so bad when you go to know them.
She grabbed her own cup, dipping it straight into the punch bowl and taking a large gulp. "Eugh!" Izzy gagged. "That's not firewhiskey. That's the cheapest whiskey I've ever tasted. You need your taste buds checked. Specifically, your liquor ones."
She contemplated her cup, considering dumping the vile liquid back into the bowl. Not that it would change the way it tasted. What a horrible drink. "Who says I'm not in the same boat you are?" she asked, still grimacing at her cup. "Except for the whole controlled by my mummy thing."
Bright Blue Eyes || Izzy and Otto
Otto licked his lips, and figured that spewing that he had a date for the dance that he really liked wasnt the way to go about this. Instead he smiled sweetly at his good friend and nodded. “Yeah. I was. I just met the most amazing person.” He couldnt keep it in. He just had to tell Izzy about the amazing Raveclaw whom he had just recently became acquainted with.
The Hufflepuff’s heart picked up at the very thought of the Ravenclaw. Casper was just so sweet and cute. And when he stuttered, Otto just wanted to kiss him for it as so endearing. It might be annoying to other people, but the boy loved it. And when he blushed! His blush! It made Otto want to kiss his cheeks and coax the pink from the skin.
Otto didnt think he was in love. Love was sort of a thing that the boy never ever thought of. It wasnt something that his family said to one another, so he didnt really even think about it. But he did really really like Casper. He loved how the boy made him feel and how his heart raced around him.
"Most amazing person," she said dryly, shooting her friend one of her skeptical looks. "You run into Merlin's ghost or something?"
Of course, Otto looked positively smitten, like he'd just fallen in love. And Izzy figured that's probably what had happened--Otto was pretty incapable of hiding his feelings from her.
It was one of the good things about him, though. He was genuine and wore his heart on his sleeve. Izzy liked people like that. It was why she'd remained friends with Otto for so long.
Fashionably Late to the Winter Ball || Rodolphus/Izzy
"If I grew another arm, you might as well AK me as soon as possible, I’d be much happier than being a freak of nature," he responded, sucking it up and taking a swig of the cup. "Any new appendages? Unsightly hair growth? Missing limbs?" He checked over himself before taking another drink and sighing. "It’s firewhiskey. Bloody average." At that revelation, he downed the rest of his cup, actually enjoying the drink now.
"I’m here mostly because my mother believes in me mingling with the common folk and being social at least once or twice before I graduate. I only plan to stay for about five more minutes before taking my leave." He hated the fact that he had to stay even this long. just to appease his mother. He was going to have to have a talk with the wretched woman on his next trip home.
He sighed again, setting his empty cup on the table behind him. “Honestly? You’re right. Anywhere would be better than this hellhole. I’ve been to enough formal events in my life to know I hate them and they are utterly boring unless you are dancing or around people you can actually fucking recognize,” he bit out, crossing his arms almost petulantly across his chest.
Izzy crossed her legs in a grinning imitation of the girls sitting in the chairs nearby, the ones primly waiting for a boy to invite them to dance and sneaking glances over at where Rodolphus sat, hoping he was about to sweep a girl onto the floor.
This was more fun than she thought it might be--the anonymity was enjoyable. She could do anything, literally anything, and nobody would ever know it was her. Usually, Izzy was quiet and reserved, preferring to keep to herself and laugh at her own jokes.
But she liked this. She liked nobody knowing who she was. Especially people like this guy, who was clearly from the highest rungs of society and would normally not give her the time of day.
Spiritedly, she answered, "Is your mum here to find out whether or not you came? Or do you just always do what she says?"
Bright Blue Eyes || Izzy and Otto
Otto’s heart was pounding when he left the small room with Casper in order to go to dinner. He couldnt focus all through the meal and he was excited to get to a friend and tell them his news. Casper was so sweet, so cute, and for some strange reason, the Hufflepuff found himself rather attached to the smaller boy. Otto waited patiently for dinner to be over and immediately went in search of Izzy. She would want to be the first to hear the news.
He looked all around, in the Library, on the pitch, even in a few classrooms, and didnt find her. Maybe she was taking a walk? Or was in the her common room. Otto bit his lip, thinking of some way to even get into the Ravenclaw Common Room. Those buggers were, if nothing, smart. The Hufflepuff doubted he would ever be able to get in. He slulked for a minute before thinking one one last place that Izzy could be. He made his way down the corridors down a hall that, when they were younger, used to walk to avoid getting caught by the Prefects doing rounds.
He saw the girls outline and almost squeaked from excitement. The blue eyed boy called out to his friend “Iz” he ran up to her. His eyes shined and his face was lit up with a smile. His heart had slowed down slightly with being away from Casper, but even the thought of his date to the ball made his heartbeat pick back up again. He was just so excited, so happy. He had never really felt this way about anything, or anyone. And it felt so goof. “Hey.” He breathed out, nerves getting to the boy.
If she'd been planning to get back to her common room without being accosted, her plans were abruptly changed by the exuberant boy with bright eyes who practically bowled her over in his excitement to get to her.
Izzy cringed back instinctively, relaxing only when she recognized Otto--well, Toto to her, ever since he'd admitted to that embarrassing childhood nickname. He was a gentle giant of sorts, much shyer and more demure than he seemed at first glance.
"Hi," she said, sidestepping him and walking around, looking back at him so he would follow and keep talking to her. "Were you looking for me?"

Fashionably Late to the Winter Ball || Rodolphus/Izzy
A voice had him turning his head, surprised anyone would even notice him in the corner. He did his best to avoid the frivolity of and jubilee of this wretched dance, and yet someone just had to notice him, let alone talk to him.
Sitting up, he took a better look at the person, whom he could only tell the gender of. It was ridiculous, seeing someone who he could have shagged or even cursed and yet he had no idea. It was a terrible idea for him to come here, he figured, as he motioned to the seat beside him, glancing for even a hint of recognition at the girl.
What stuck out about the woman was her outfit. Every other female in this castle was wearing the best dress money could buy, or at least their worthless money. But not this one. She wore pants. A pantsuit, let alone. It was not the most pleasant thing he saw on a woman, but it suited her, he supposed. Not that he could tell from her face, but it was alright enough for the night.
"I do hope it is vodka, Merlin knows this bloody event needs it," he drawled, relaxing back into his seat. "But then again, I might as well just let you taste it for me, to ensure there is nothing dangerous in it for me." He teasingly held out his cup, waving it in her face with a grin.
With an exaggerated grimace, she shook her head, parts of her hastily-arranged updo falling out around her face. Izzy was reminded, again, how out of place she was around here.
"If you grow another arm, it'll be entertainment enough for me," she laughed. "I'll wait and see." There was an empty edge of the table behind her; she hopped up on it, swinging her legs a little. "What are you doing here, anyway? You look like you'd rather be anywhere else."
Of course, he looked charmingly annoyed and put out, like he was used to this kind of scene and simply accustomed to attending with this sort of nonchalance and distaste for the proceedings. This was his natural, comfortable state.
Which, of course, made her all the more determined to see him shaken out of that.
Izzy's Winter Ball outfit.
