Leon showed up at her apartment sometime after 9 p.m.—hair damp from the rain, jacket smelling faintly of smoke and cheap aftershave. He had that familiar look: half-tired, half-trying-not-to-care. In his hand, a small, neatly wrapped box.
“For you,” he said simply, holding it out.
