My Palace: The Den of Lies

“Well I’m never too picky. So, lead the way!” Dean wasn’t sure if he was going to regret this or not, but hey, hell with it.

"Follow me." Loki turned, beckoning for Dean to follow. He paused and looked back at him with a slight frown. "Now I feel quite like a fool. I don't believe I caught your name."

“Before now I used them as a place to study and practice my magic away from the eyes of others here in the palace,” Loki explained, moving towards the wall that separated this room from his. “I converted them a while back when I knew I wouldn’t be here as much as before. But, I left a few small things.” He places his hand against the wall and a rectangular section or it began to shimmer, slowly revealing a door that attached the two rooms. “For starters the rooms are attached so I didn’t raise any suspicions, and you’re welcome to use this door to go between our rooms. Secondly, I do have this room warded as an extra layer of security, as there are some things that guards can’t defend against.”

Steve followed him around the room, watching and listening carefully, nodding slowly as Loki explained it all to him. “I”ll keep all of that in mind,” he said quietly. “Thank you.” He stepped back and looked around the rest of the room, fingers brushing along furniture and bedding. He peeked into the bathroom and found it rather large before he moved back towards the bed once more, settling on the edge of it, looking rather exhausted as he did so.

The door that led to Loki's room didn't fade as he stepped away from it. He watched Steve with a look of slight amusement as he looked around. "You're welcome. Let me know if there's anything at all that you may want or need," He said, turning to head towards the door to the corridor.

Steve swallowed down the last of the asgardian ale in his glass and set the empty glass down, watching Loki intently as he did so before nodding his head slowly. “Consider it done,” he answered quietly. “You hide me away from the people who want so desperately to make me fight, and you’re more than welcome to come with me. It’ll be nice… just you an’ me…” He blinked his eyes a few times. “I think I have found something to make me pass out… only took a few years of trying everything I could find…”

Loki smiled softly and chuckled before polishing off his own glass and pushing it away. "Perhaps you should rest before our escape?" He suggested, tilting his head slightly. "You've certainly earned it, and I know you're tired, Steve. I can make preparations while you sleep." He couldn't help the smile that remained on his lips as he thought about the new and different places he could possibly bring the Captain to.

“Well… Maybe not the universe. But I’ve definitely seen more than my fair share.”

“I’m sure you have quite a few interesting stories. I’d like to hear them sometime.”

Dean can’t help but chuckle a little. “Get me drunk enough and you just might.”

“Then in that case, should we go for drinks?” Loki couldn’t quite hide the smirk of amusement.

The hunter snorts. “I definitely won’t say no to that.”

Loki's smirk morphs into a devious little smile. "Wonderful. I know a quaint little place that you may enjoy not too far from here."

Loki make a face and hummed softly in thought. He’d follower Thor out to the training grounds mostly out of boredom. “I should switch to a new brand then,” He said after a bit. “I’ve been having to up the dosage on my current ones a little too much for my liking.”

Thor sighed softly. “Loki.. you know that is very dangerous, right?” He asked, only wanting to help. “Eventually they will not work at all, then what?”

Loki was quiet for a few long moments. He knew Thor was right, and the suppressants had been working less and less no matter which brands he switched to. "I may have no other choice but to go through a heat naturally," He finally said with a heavy sigh. "I absolutely abhor the idea, but I'll have to go without for a while sometime soon."

Loki nearly jumped out of his skin when he saw Bucky sitting there on the couch. The noise he made from his initial surprises was one he’d regret later. “Would it be too much to ask for creatures if the night to actually knock?!” He exclaimed, running his fingers through his hair as he calmed down. “But, yes. I have been. Here to kill me to keep your secret safe, or did you want something?”

Loki shrugged, moving further into the apartment and sitting on a lounge chair near the couch to remove his shoes. "I'm not sure. All I know is that I didn't appreciate you tampering with my mind. I prefer having my memories in one piece, especially if they're real," He answered. "And it's good to see that your appetite has set you down the path if vigilante crime fighting." The last part was said jokingly as he smirked at Bucky. He was still nervous and scared, but he tried to hide it.

“Not that easy,” he answered, taking a long drink of the alcohol in his glass. “I don’t like fighting. I don’t like killing. I do what I do because… that’s what I was made to do. The government turned me into this, made me strong, healthy, able to recover from just about anything so… my life has been in their hands ever since, basically. They point me towards a war and off I go.”

Loki hummed softly taking a drink from his own glass. “Why do you still care what your government wants?” He asked, genuinely confused. “It seems to me that all they do is use you as though you were a machine. Which you obviously are not.” He paused thinking something over. “It may not be that easy, but it might be possible.”

Steve looked at him for a moment before downing what was left in his glass. “They’re not gonna let me retire… and it’s not that I care what they want… it’s that they pretty much own me because of the experimentation and all. I can’t just get up and leave. They’d never allow it.”

“Why not run away? With a little help from yours truly it could be done quite easily,” Loki offered, filling Steve’s glass once more. He only filled it halfway this time and did the same with his own. “I think we all could use a long vacation away from war and the losses that come with it…”

Steve picked up the glass but then set it back down as he looked across at Loki intently. “Run away…” he said quietly. “I’ve never run away from anything or anyone in my life… but the idea has a lot of appeal after… everything else.”

Loki smiled down at his drink bitterly. “Yes…it really does sound like a wonderful, idiotic notion,” He agreed, tracing the rim of his glass with his middle finger. “You could even go to a different planet. I can find a way to get you off world. Might be a tad tricky, but I could do it.” He finally took a drink of the mead, humming quietly as he set the glass back down. “Would you do it? Run away and start again, away from the wars?”

The corner of Loki's mouth twitched up slightly, a ghost of his normal smirk. "I would help you to do it," He replied softly. "And all I would ask in return is that you allow me to go with you." He finished off what was left in his glass and checked the bottle to see if there was enough for two more glasses. He poured what was left into each of their glasses, though there wasn't much.

Exhaustion was setting in and his body needed to heal. “Where should I sleep?” he finally asked quietly.

“I had an extra room set up for you next to mine,” He said, moving past Steve to the door so he could lead him to his room. “It will be guarded at all times as a precautionary measure.”

Steve nodded slowly, following after him. “I understand the precautionary measure but I remind you that I have promised not to try and escape so long as you uphold your end of our agreement. I tend to keep my word.” He followed him towards the other bedroom, not sure if he was happy to have his own room or a bit disappointed…

Loki walked to the door to the right of his own and opened it for Steve. The room was decorated just as nicely as Loki's own, though the color scheme was far different. It even had a large bathroom attached that was completely his own. "You are very honest, and it could get you killed some day," Loki replied, glancing back at Steve. He studied his eyes for a few moments, searching. He turned away and motioned to the room with his hand. "There are a few things about these rooms I wasn't going to tell you before, but after our conversation, I think I should let you know the details of your new home."
