Possibly wisteria. Santa Cruz, March 2023.
Sunset, Santa Cruz Mountains, California.
Snow, Santa Cruz Mountains, ~1,500 feet elevation.
Rare snow in the Bay Area. The chickadees are spending a lot of time hanging out at the feeder today.

Went to Yosemite for a few days and managed to catch the Horsetail Fall phenomenon in action! It was still snowy in the valley but spring is clearly coming.
There are now more warm days interspersed between the rain. Everything is starting to bud and bloom, and the days are getting noticably longer. It's only a few more weeks until spring arrives in full force.
February started with rain and fog. But the sun is starting to come out more, the redwood tops are green again, and the acacias are in bloom. There are robins and sparrows everywhere.
I went into town this weekend, and it's warmer down there. Everything is starting to bloom.
The acacias have started putting on buds although it's still cold out, and the areas still draining storm water are suddenly full of algae. It's not warm, per se, but it's been sunny this week, which is making all the plants think it's spring already.

I think I'm going to start using this blog as a bit of a nature journal to track the seasons changing year to year. I've never been good at keeping one on paper.
The buckeyes are starting to put on leaf buds, but it seems too early for that. All the sour grass is blooming too. Maybe it's the sudden sun after all the rain, despite the nighttime temps still being close to freezing.
Mostly just sparrows are out, and a few wrens. I can sometimes hear a woodpecker on the side of the house, but I haven't spotted it yet.
