This is a project I am working on to distribute locally when I table at events. I've had a number of people come up to me and say something like "Oh, this looks like something my daughter would have loved, but she's grown up now." I also get a number of people expressing surprise that someone in the area creates comics. I'm not the only one here, so I try to inform them a bit. Young people also come up, amazed that I made the book sitting on the table, and ask questions about how I make the comic. I try to answer their questions and encourage the ones that show interest in making their own.
So with all that in mind, I wanted to create something to give to people that would educate them about comics as a medium and tell them where they can learn more. While this area has a thriving arts scene and there are a number of individuals working on comics, sequential art is somewhat rare in local shows. My hope is that by educating people of all ages we can raise visibility of comics locally and form a community of readers and creators.
I also recently stumbled across a small grant that would really help this project and help pay for the printing of the brochures. I've submitted my proposal for a display about local comic artists which would include handing these out.
Even if I don't get the grant I'm going to try and get the money together to do this.
The redacted url on the inside will be a website that links to comic resources for creators and readers, but it's not quite ready yet.
