However, I think the idea of “feminism” is geared toward/only benefits cis white women, which is unfortunate. 

It’s what really annoys me, honestly. I mean, this is probably a really old and already been explained example, but take Beyonce, Nicki Minaj, and Rihanna. They do their own thing, make their own money, and use their music to portray strong feminist ideals, and yet, they are shat on, and I we all know why. Meanwhile, Taylor Swift, Iggy Azesiuegb and Ariana Grande are seen as like, God’s gift to feminism. We all know why that is, too.

Life at Hollins for a black girl? Hmmm I have to say it really depends. For me, life’s been pretty good. I hang out with most of the POC that attend Hollins, which for me, makes me feel safe. But, since Hollins is predominately white, things can get pretty problematic pretty quickly. Ever since the rise of Ferguson,the racial tension on campus has intensified and it is very easy to see how segregated Hollins can get…and since Hollins is so small it doesn’t take long for certain things to get around. Since the amount of POC on campus is so small, it’s easy to find and connect with said people, though, which helps. And Hollins is slowly getting better with handling racism on campus. So all in all, life at Hollins as a black girl can be difficult, but not too bad. (I’m sure I rambled lol so I’m sorry if that didn’t make any sense and you need me to clarify.)

As for job opportunities, (I’m assuming you mean after college?) Hollins has really great connections with their alums, whose jobs range from every possibility. Hollins can definitely help you find a job in your career, or at least pretty close to it. If you’re talking about work study/ on campus job opportunities, they are usually first come first serve to people who apply to them, but if you really need it I know that Hollins can usually find something for you. If you’re like me, though, who got a scholarship in order to have work study, you usually are the first to get placed with a campus job. Unfortunately you can’t really choose what you want to do, but if you find that you don’t like your job, you can go to the head of Financial Aid and they can place you with a new one.
