I think something that Florence got out of her relationship with Freddie that is overlooked is that he needed her and he was unlikely to abandon her. Which, if you consider her family trauma, seems like it would have been a big deal.

It’s also interesting that she meant to explore her own wasted potential upon leaving him but instead lost herself in another relationship immediately.

I think she’s scared of her own potential and that she might not be able to rise to it/ she’s too comfortable existing in someone’s shadow because it’s familiar (both times, gifted men).

I hope that post-show she is able to break this pattern and truly shine in the chess world.

theres something called neoteny where an animal never leaves its juvenile stage or just essentially never grows up. (of course i had to connect this to mincemeat) ewen montagu—in my eyes—has so many childish behaviors throughout the entire show, he never really grew up, he just became this insecure man with these immature tendencies that were never corrected because, let's face it, he's a man and it's the 40s.

thought of this because i was looking at edits comparing characters to animals from awhile ago (god i miss that) and one of them said "axolotls never enter a stage past their juvenile phase, it's not like they wanted to anyway" and immediately thought of ewen fucking montagu
