âA Christmas Feelingâ
Oh how I love the season of Christmas Together with those bright nightlights A warm and fuzzy feeling within us The feeling that you get on a cold, winter night
The time of the year
People of all sizes and shapes
Smiling from ear to ear
Seeing shooting stars bouncing off the snowflakes
Everywhere we see, trees are statues of ornaments
The decorations in sight are as red as Rudolphâs nose
Christmas stockings are exploding with presents
Stores are busy, people rushing and even shopping for clothes
Christmas has come early for some
Original copies of songs could be heard
Boom! Goes the rhythm of a drum
Carols sung word by word
Oh how I love the season of Christmas
Lifeâs a snow globe when weâre all together
A sense of togetherness and love within us
Christmas will always be Christmas, no matter the weather
some notes on anti-asian racism
look. other people have commented on this before, but it seems like it needs to be said again because some of yâall arenât getting the message.Â
asian people are a marginalized minority. what about this do people not understand. asian people are marginalized because we live in a system of white supremacy and in this system, asian people will never be white and will never have the power of white people. just because a lot of asians are relatively well off financially does not mean we are not marginalized; there are other ways to be excluded and treated as unequal besides in terms of money, and this completely ignores the millions of asian people who are poor and working class, including the women who were killed in atlanta. asian people are not basically white- we look different, so we are treated different, just like any minority. itâs that simple. if asian people were not marginalized, why else would hate crimes against asian people rise dramatically in 2020. why else would we be attacked in the streets. why else would people tell us to go back to where we came from. why else would the chinese exclusion act be passed, japanese american citizens be shipped to the midwest during world war 2, vietnamese people massacred by american soldiers in the 70s. asian people are being killed now. if we are not marginalized, why are there targets on our backs for existing.Â
black lives matter and stop asian hate are movements for social justice that have the same root cause: destroying white supremacy. black and asian communities have often been pitted against each other by white institutions seeking to take advantage of sowing discord between minority groups, but there is a rich history of black-asian solidarity during the fight for civil rights in the late 20th century. yes, anti-blackness is a real, endemic issue in asian communities, especially among older asians. and yes, asians can also experience racism (see this addition on a reblog about why i changed this) hate from black individuals- see these examples of cardi b using an anti-asian slur, this incident that happened yesterday of a black man pouring unknown liquid on an asian woman. neither is acceptable. supporting one movement does not negate your support for the other. you can do both, in fact, you should do both. realize that we all have a common enemy here, and itâs the system of white supremacy that has oppressed us. we are not free from white supremacy until it is all entirely eradicated, for everyone.Â
just because i speak in the collective sense about asian people does not mean that all asian people are the same. even though some of us may look similar, with black hair and âsmallâ eyes, that is only a representative image of some east/southeast asian people. asia is vast and incredibly diverse, and each nation has its own culture, language, and traditions. in addition, the asian diaspora is huge. asian people live all over the world, in varying economic, social, and political situations. different asian people in different areas have very different problems, even within the same country. an asian in a small town in nebraska will have a very different experience than an asian in paris. a korean person will have a different experience in a given place from an indian person. i donât know how many times in my life iâve been asked, âare you chinese?â the answer is no, iâm not, and a lot of asians arenât chinese. tied into this is the mistaken belief of some nonasians in the western world that all asians are still allegiant to the country of their heritage and speak the language of that country, which manifests in comments like âoh your english is so good!â or âare you, like, communist?â first off, it ignores the very real possibility that an asian person could be born outside asian countries, and second, being from a certain country by no means determines whether youâre loyal to it and agree with its policies. i just saw this with an anon claiming all chinese people support the governmentâs reeducation camps for uyghur muslims. this is absolutely preposterous.Â
finally, a word on allyship. i have zero faith in people- and by that i mean white people- to continue talking about this and spreading awareness about anti-asian racism. part of it is this model minority myth, that asians are basically as well off as white people, at least financially and academically, so they can figure things out by themselves. no. absolutely not. we cannot get out of the hole white supremacy has put us into without white people making a genuine, legitimate effort to confront their own biases. your white tears, your prayers and thoughts, they mean nothing when the blood of our families and friends runs in the streets. they mean nothing if you havenât bothered to learn a single thing about your own prejudices. i hope to god that i am wrong about this. i hope for my family, my friends, and myself that yâall will continue to be loud about this, because we are tired of screaming for help in a crowd where we are invisible and no one cares. but iâm a skeptic for a reason, and it took a massacre for people to notice what was happening. i donât know if iâll ever be proven wrong.Â

Don't believe a single one of the millions of ways you can be told you're not enough.
It's difficult to know where to begin because there are so many things I want to tell you. Life can be both beautiful and difficult at the same time. You, on the other hand, are capable of overcoming any obstacle. I'll start with a simple request: Donât rush. Please take your time with everything. Be careful and slow down. You still have a lot of life ahead of you. God has so many things in store for you. But for now, savor this time of your life. Your mood will always depend on how you wake up that day. In short, how you choose to start your day will affect your sunlight hours and how everything will fall into place. Enjoy the little and simple things in life while you still can, because youâll regret not cherishing your precious time. You will always get through, through this and through all. No matter what you face or how horrible things look, itâs not the end of the planet.
YOU â As a kid, you were a very enthusiastic and confident girl, not giving a care on what other people had to say about you. You made friends easily and had no problem in making sure you stood out from a crowd. In your first year as a teenager, your personality abruptly changed. You started caring about what others thought about you. You started finding difficulty in being around other people other than your family, and people who you grew up with. During your junior high years, you met and were introduced to lots of people with different personalities, and discovered more opportunities and chances for you to grow. But being the shy girl you had become, you declined those opportunities in hopes of âblendingâ with the crowd who wanted to go with the flow with their lives. I am telling you to please use your childhood and time wisely to find out who you are and discover your true potential. Don't believe one of the millions of ways you can be told you're not enough. Who you are is exactly who you were created to be. Accept yourself right now, and you'll be shocked by who you become.
The summer before you entered senior high had been a life changer. You started realizing your mistakes in the past and regretted some decisions. You started not to let others get to you. You listened to her mind and heart equally and followed your passion to gain back your senses. One thing you should be able to learn is that it is okay to get scared sometimes but running away from your problems isnât a solution. Always remember that itâs not the end if itâs not okay. You started voicing out during discussions, making your presence felt. You finally took control of your life. You made choices that youâre proud of, making a claim on each breath you take. Taking advantages of situations and making them your own became a game plan, since no one else was going to do it for you. You had no ounce of guilt running through your veins when you found out about all these on your own. You, my dear self, are not required to follow in the footsteps of others. You are you. You have your own value and position in the universe, and donât not let anyone take that from you. Ever.
I can guarantee you that every fear you have will never some true. Stop wasting your time reflecting on what-if scenarios. You can miss out on lots of possibilities that are here in this moment if you keep dwelling on what could happen in the future or contemplating on things you can't change from the past.
YOUR VOTE MATTERS
If you fill a glass of water halfway, is it half full or half empty? Same goes with the thought of âsuffrageâ. Iâm sure most of us are already familiar with the term, but some are still unused to hearing it since it had fallen out of ordinary usage. It was coined by the Latin word âsuffragiumâ which means âto voteâ, specifically the right or privilege to vote. Now, what is suffrage, how did it start and why is it important?
Notwithstanding the law doesnât really require citizens to vote, it is still our responsibility somehow to do so. To some, voting may seem useless and illogical to make a difference. Even with that said, it doesnât mean that oneâs vote is not significant. By participating in the elections, you can vote for leaders who are worthy and support the peoplesâ interests, and engage in the democratic process as that is one of the key liberties a person can have in his or her life.
The term âUniversal Suffrageâ was mostly used to support the right to vote for everyone of legal age, regardless of race and gender. Later in the year 1870, the term âsuffrageâ equaled generally affiliated with the women suffrage movement. Back then in the United States, despite the term âsuffragetteâ â member of an activist women's organization, Votes for Women, women still continued to fight. Today, National Womenâs Party founders Alice Paul and Lucy Burns trooped, protested, and endured hunger strikes to fight for their right to vote.
As a student, and a Filipino citizen who wants to make this country a better land to live in, I treasure my right to suffrage and plan on exercising it wisely. Iâll just be going straight to the point here. I donât and am not blaming any politician in particular whoâs in position as of the moment, but donât you just wish that some of them could change their mindset on how they govern our country? The government should set their priorities straight while thinking what the people need.
Iâm really looking forward for the next elections which will be held in 2022 and I canât hide my excitement. I canât believe Iâll be able to vote for the right leaders this country needs. If Iâm being completely honest, there are a lot of misinterpretations and wrongdoings the current administration has executed.  I hope that most young adults in my generation will exercise their right to vote as well. It will be one of the many acts for us to give aid and improve our community and country to develop and eventually become more exemplary.
