Working in the service industry for so long, Tiana knew a thing or tow. In fact, from years helping momma pay bills after James' death, Tiana had practically all the skills of someone far older, with the wisdom ( and general stress levels ) of a thousand bill-payers. Frankly, helping other young people learn the tips and tricks was all Tiana could do nowadays - even if it was extremely difficult sometimes.
"You have to pay taxes every year, Van, it's not optional" Tiana groaned, though they kept a withered smile as they helped the younger girl, "How much do you make at the arcade?"
"It kind of is though right? LIke are they gonna track me down at my apartment? . good luck finding me." She teased and groaned laying her hand down on her arms. "I know I know.. but im just trying this thing where... I just get through the week?" She chided and tilted her head frowning. She couldnt help smile back at her. Vanellope didnt exactly warm up to many people. Most were generally a waste of her time.. most of the time when she met people their whole relationship far into the future raced in her mind and if she didnt see an outcome she found desierable or it just felt wrong in her bones she didnt bother even trying, which... didnt leave her with many friends and the ones she did like.. well.. many didnt like her back
"Scarely enough to live..." She grumbled, "But its fine many people throw perfectly good items away."
Burrowed deep into her sweater, Aurora sighed in relief as the prickling sensation slowly faded from her fingers. Short as the walk from work had been, it was still long and cold enough to make her regret her choice not to drive. Especially when she thought about making the walk back after the less than half an hour left of her break.
Accepting her drink from the barista with a smile and a thank you, Aurora turned to scan the tables for somewhere to sit, just for a little while. She wasn’t ready to venture out into the cold again, not yet.
The unfortunate thing about actually taking her lunch at lunch time was that, well, it was lunch time. Most everyone else was out and about as well. And she was far from the only one who'd thought a hot drink sounded perfect with the weather, and they'd all gotten there before her, filling the tables.
Though at least one table had an empty seat.
And an occupant who didn't look too terrifying.
"Excuse me, do you mind if I sit here?"
Vanellope hadnt slept well but this was nothing new. She had been an insomanic for as long as she could remember. For the longest time.. it was the night time when Vanellope could finally be her true self away from peoples judging eyes and expectations, but now she was free.. well in a way, Yet, even with this almost freedom sleep still evaded her. There was this annoying nagging deep in her that wouldnt leave her mind.. the desire however deeply hidden to find some sort of acceptance, to be back doing what she truly loved.. racing... and not the running kind.
She looked up when she heard a voice as she stared intensely at her own coffee. "Do I?" She asked leaning back and staring up "Do I..." She pondered frowning. "Well that depends.. are you going to chew loudly? Do you hum or will you tell me your life story out of no where?" She asked folding her arms. "And I hope you dont have any sort of motivational quotes stashed away because I dont want to hear it.. otherwise yes you may sit but be careful of the sticky stuff on the seat."
"What? No! Of course I'm not afraid of the dark. I'm offering to walk you home so you feel safe." Arley puffed out his chest, raising his brows in playful cockiness. "Come on, I'm going this way anyway, it'll only be weird now if you make me walk behind you." Unable to stand even a moments awkward silence, he continued his tirade. "Look, just this once, I'll even carry your things. Do we have a deal?"
"Listen buddy old pal, Ive walked by myself plenty of times.. besides why would be be interested on if I feel safe do I even know you?" She asked sticking her hands in her pockets. "Sounds like it woud make you feel more better than me is that right?" She asked. "And if you insist.. if I agree to this.. You can buy me a soda?"

how’s this for an opening joke? "you know what the toughest part of being a gay black police officer is? the discrimination.“ I believe that’s what you call observational humor.
