Ik that most peoples' "definitive" version of Newsies is either the movie or the Broadway recording. However, mine is the production of Newsies I was in. WE STARTED A STRIKE??? [GONE WRONG.] [GONE GAY?]
I really think it is actually such a disservice to Katherine’s character for her to fall in love with Jack. Like, it just makes so much of her character, growth, personality, and screen time all devoted to Jack. She’s a rich, privileged woman meeting a bunch of Newsies from a much different life than hers, and she’s a woman journalist! Her dad is the one doing all of this and she must feel so conflicted!!! She had so much to play with and overcome and yet the thing that gets the most attention is her relationship with Jack. And I don’t hate them as a couple, either! I just think that it limits her as a character to be stuck as a love interest, and there was a lot more that could have been done with her using the time that is currently taken up by her love story with Jack.

I’m really excited for the new musical for the Outsiders, and I so desperately want to watch it. However, flying to New York… doable for me, but like do I really want to spend almost 1k dollars on not even a 3-day trip?? Not really.
So, my question, is if anyone knows if they will livestream a performance? I tried looking for it but I can’t find anything. Or, if there will be a pro shot for the public?

I was so caught up in the euphoria of king of new york that for a moment I lived in a world where letter from the refuge didn’t exist
jack kelly hyperfixates on cowboy culture as a gay artsy teen in new york city and functionally knows how to rope a calf despite living in an apartment in manhattan. he knows all the steps to setting up a saddle on a horse. he has only seen horses in central park. he watches old westerns until three am when he should be doing his math homework. he listens to old country music and soundtracks from cowboy movies and daydreams while staring out the window on the subway. he looks into buying a pair of boots but then realizes they won’t look good with his jeans and then realizes if he needs new jeans then he needs a belt with a fancy buckle but if he gets that then he also needs a pearl snap and a cowboy hat and he feels embarrassed about looking stupid on the streets of new york so he settles for buying a tshirt with a cowboy on it and that’s fine that’ll hold him over. painting scenes of cowboys in the desert, cowboys in the plains, cowboys on the streets in big cities and by his fifth or sixth painting he does that even have to look at reference photos of horses anymore bc he’s studied them so intensely. jack kelly, the big city cowboy wannabe
This review of The Outsiders musical from the NY Times is so funny to me, like did the actors/writers/whoever make Johnny and Ponyboy so gay this reviewer thought they should get hatecrimed??
