4th community rewatch: troy barnes though similarly superficial at first is such an incredibly complex character and through his cartoonish and exaggerated shenanigans he maintains his level of realism and similarities to real life queer people that overcompensated for so long they feel unconnected to themselves and this is explored in such a complicated but subtle way that though not obvious at first feel way too intentional to not mean something when piled up

my thoughts on jeffbritta are *adele voice* we could've had it alllll, and it kills me that the show did them so dirty, just because dan harmon hates women or whatever. britta specifically deserved so much better than what she got in the show, when they turned her character into the butt of every joke post-s1 and, to help push jeff/annie, essentially just gave everything to annie instead. when the reality is, not only are jeff and britta way more age appropriate of a pairing, they also just make sense. they're both cynical and damaged, they both love other people as much as they hate themselves. they're both embarrassed about how much they care about each other. they bring out the worst and the best in each other. they always come back to each other (see: they almost got married three fucking times) and they're entertaining as fuck together. they have obvious sexual chemistry and a good rapport. britta is interested in helping jeff heal rather than 'fixing' him, an important distinction especially when you compare them to jeff/annie. like trobed, i think they still have post-canon potential despite everything - the way they're written in 'basic heartbreak repair' is generally what i want for them. but overall, i do think so much potential was wasted with them and that makes me sad.
