"I'm a top" "I'm a bottom" ok but are you on the square??? are you on the level??? are you ready to swear right here right now before the devil???
ur future nurse is using chapgpt to glide thru school u better take care of urself
Yep. This is terrifying. I’ve caught nursing majors, engineering majors, architecture majors relying on ChatGPT to do their homework. These are people who need to know their field well to ensure people don’t die and they’re letting a glorified algorithm cheat them through school. It’s so dangerous
hey. hi. I work in academia. and there are a lot of student-age folks on this site.
don't do this. don't use genAI. even if your professors give you permission. even if they ask for it or suggest it. if they do anything short of directly requiring it (and I weep, because I've already seen assignments that require it) don't touch that crap. if they do require it, stick it to them. be as maliciously compliant as possible. be a nightmare.
I know it might sound easier right now -- just plug in your assignment and get the answers. you don't care about this class anyway, it's not for your major, you don't see the value of the assignment.
but for your own sake, for the sake of your education and mind, and for the sake of the future world we want to have: learn the stuff. you are not as stupid as the corporate bizzaro kings who want to rule the world think you are, so don't give them reasons to believe it.
and odds are good genAI is gonna give you corrupted info anyway -- more and moreso as the machines cannibalize themselves.
just don't do it. not even "I just do it for XYZ--" no. stop. there is no valid use of generative AI, and even using it for memes or lolz feeds the system and directly feeds the pockets of the people who want to replace you anyway.
Rage reblogging this. Yesterday i got into an argument with one of my college friends who is using chatGPT to do all her work. We're psychology students. The whole group chat laughed my arguments off as if they didn't matter because "she's an artist, of course she's anti-AI" and i had to deal with it. This is a warning. If your therapist graduated in 2023/2024, ask about their opinions on chatGPT. They might lie to you if you ask "did you use it to graduate" directly, but try to make jokes about it and play it cool. If they're into it, DROP OFF. FIND A NEW ONE. Do not trust your brain to someone who didn't bother to use theirs.
There's a rider crammed into the budget reconciliation bill to BAN STATE LAWS RESTRICTING AI USE FOR 10 YEARS. I hope I don't have to explain how catastrophic that would be.
Here's an automated way to call your representatives: https://5calls.org/
Here's some info for making calls:
AI chatbot addiction is becoming a thing, too. Chatbots are cheering people into psychotic episodes and religious mania, and a teenager killed himself due to encouragement from a chatbot.
Most of my students have been using AI on papers, even though its use is banned in my class. I'm allowed by my department only to penalize students for whom I have proof,* which ultimately means the students who used AI specifically for citation and quote generation.
It's a PITA that students are slipping by. They don't think we can tell they've used AI; we can tell. It's reeeaaaal obvious when an undergrad is magically writing at a peer-reviewed-journal level. The disrespect is crazy. Teachers simply have little recourse and no energy to deal with it.
Every student I've confronted has thought I caught on purely due to the writing style. It doesn't occur to them that the sources, the actual information, could be incorrect. I have had students resubmit their work, AI ostensibly cleaned away, and the hallucinations are still there.
My colleagues and I have no way of solving this in the long term. Students tell me to "ask ChatGPT" about things instead of to "Google it". They don't know what citations are. Their ability to write a basic short paper is nonexistent. They don't believe in their own ability to learn to do the work, and they don't value the effort.
AI is plagiarism, and I fully believe that schools (and any institutions concerned with ethics) need to introduce a zero-tolerance policy and to back up teachers on enforcing it.
*this is because students can contest the ruling, and it gets messy. Schools like to avoid messiness.
Hi, academic librarian here.
My coworkers and I are having such wild experiences with students using ai.
There are instructors creating assignments with/about/in support of ai.
We are being asked to check citations for ai hallucinations. And yes, they really are that obvious. We had one recently where the author was literally Jane Smith. Like, come on.
The other weird thing we have been experiencing is just the way students interact with us, particularly online. We staff a live webchat. Real human librarians to chat with online and we advertise as such. But lately students are assuming they're talking to a machine and they have been so rude and demanding, even when we tell them they're talking to a person! It is scary and concerning on so many fronts at this point. Academic integrity to just interpersonal social skills.

Chapter Two: The Cardinal (2018) Rite Here Rite Now (2024)
The third rider looks cool
Not to be completely insane but if we actually take this concept seriously for a moment this means the Papas are the four horsemen:
Primo is Conquest which fits the first Papa super well – he came, saw and conquered (the stage, the world of music, building the congregation)
Secondo is War and holds a sword (lol), outwardly scary-looking, was supposed to topple nations and spread the satanic panic, "mongering"
Terzo is not just cool-looking but he also has a pair of scales (kind of apt considering the themes of Meliora) and would therefore be Famine (subverting the anticapitalist themes? starving for absolution and God's grace?)
Copia is the fourth rider on the pale horse, Death (the whole Prequelle theme, really, Copia's era including the deaths of the other Papas, Sister and Nihil, his own fear of the end)
followed by Hades (Perpetua? acceptance of death/the end and what might come after)
